#OOTD Lady Vintage Polka Dot – Plus North

One Of My Long Loved Dresses

This lovely dress was my #OOTD (Outfit of the day) on the second day of Plus North. I have had this Lady Vintage London for ages and am still absolutely in love with it, like I was from the very first second. However, somehow up till now it had not made it’s way onto my blog yet. Although this is the dress I am wearing in my header picture on the top right.

The Lady Vintage Tea Dress

This is one of Lady Vintage London‘s tea dresss just like the dress in this post, Unfortunately they don’t offer this style anymore in the plus-size versions (meaning above a size 22).

I have worn this dress a thousand times and it is and will always be one of my dresses. To be honest you just can’t beat polka dots .  Polka dots are just a timeless classic and an amazing throwback to the 50s. The cut of this dress not only just really comfortable but also very figure flattering, especially with a thin belt. I also love to wear it with a cardigan, which goes really well with it,  for the chillier days.

A Plea To Lady Vintage London

So I can only plea:

Dear Lady Vintage London, I plead with you, please offer your tea dresses again in sizes larger than 22.

If you do, I can promise you I will most likely very soon own one of them in almost every single pattern of the plus-size tea dresses you will offer.

In Love With The Colour

I am absolutely loving the colour of this dress, especially after I was for years I not able to wear blue as it basically made me look “dead” complexionwise. This changed when I dyed my hair darker. The happier Iam now how well this lovely blue still goes with my new orange hair and actually even nicely “pops” the orange colour due to the strong contrast.

Where You Can Get (A Similar) Dress

If you are one of those lucky people that fit in a size 22 or below, here is where you get them, maybe not in polka dots but in a lot of other lovely patterns. While they offer neither the tea dresses in the larger sizes nor the tea dresses in polka dots anymore, Lady Vintage London has recently released quite a few polka dot dresses in the larger sizes (going up to a 32), which you can get here.

One of those cuts offered now in polka dots is the lovely “Estella Dress” which I absolutely love and bought in several patterns as soon as it came out (some of which are not offered anymore). Now that it is available also in polka dots I might be tempted again. Although owning one dress in 4-5 different patterns (currently 3) might border to madness. I am actually considering wearing one version of this dress to the upcoming Plus Size Fashion Days in Hamburg

“Flawless” by Missguided

On this day I was also showing off my new “Flawless” earrings from Missguided. A company that is most likely not on most of your radars. While in several interviews they have stated that a plus-size range is very likely to follow at some point, up till now they offer a clothing range up to a size 18.

However, I have currently really discovered them as a great place for  shoe and especially jewellery. To me they are becoming, despite being a fast fashion retailer, bit by bit a real replacement for my favourite jewellery shop in Germany, Bijou Brigitte, which I still dearly miss since I moved to the UK.

I love these earrings. The hoopstyle reminds a bit of the 90s but they also have something 50sy about them of which I can’t quite put my fingers on yet, but I do like whatever that is. They went bang on with my outfitand and especially my hair on that day, but most importantly, the “Flawless” statement” sends a great and important body positive message!

What Do You Think?

Would you like Lady Vintage London to bring back their tea dress in the plus sizes? What do you think about Missguided and have you ordered from them before?

I would love to hear from you.

#OOTD: 50s Inspired Plus-Size Pin-Up Style

Gosh it was not easy to decide what to wear for Plus North, I still had (and have) quite a few outfits to show off that I had not worn yet and there are just so many great pieces that just have come out for the new season. On top of all that I just had changed my hair colour, (and at that to orange!), which really changes the look of *everything* on you.

So as said above, I was really unsure what to wear and went through about a thousand different options, till I came on Asos Curve across what you see below and then what I was about to wear was immediately made clear.

1  – ASOS CURVE Pleated Skater Skirt
2 – Alice & You Bardot Body
3
– ASOS Bandana Print Headscarf Neckerchief

Current Favourite: Pleated Skirts

I am currently absolutely in love with pleated skirts and if you follow my blog you know that there is basically no skirt or dress I am wearing without a belt. However, on pleated skirts most belts appear to look a bit “off” and somehow never sit right or stay in place. So the contrast waistband on this skirt is really amazing and exactly what I was looking for.

ASOS CURVE Pleated Skater Skirt

Unexpected Favourite: Bodies

Bodies are my new love. I am currently discovering so many new things that work for me. And one  revelation for me was that I actually like the look of myself with my shirt tucked into my skater or a-line skirts and even feel comfortable in it.

However, that once again can be a bit of a pain as, depending on the shirt, you might constantly have to keep an eye on it if it is staying properly tucked in. The amazingly simple solution? Bodies!

Alice & You Bardot Body

I would have never thought I would ever be found in a body again. As a kid my mom had to force me into them, but now they are my new found love. I already own this beauty and am loving it, although unfortunately it is currently sold out. I am sure I will be collecting more bodies (of the textile variety of course) in my wardrobe over the next months.

The Cherry On Top: The Accessories

The final pieces to top the outfit off and to give it the proper 5os style were the accessories: The absolutely essential 50s worker style headscarf from Asos and a killer necklace from Missguided.

Necklace: Missguided – Cleksa Geometric Plate Necklace
Headscarf – ASOS Bandana Print Headscarf Neckerchief

So Far One Of My Favourites

So far this outfit has been one of my favourite outfits. I absolutely adore the 50s plus-size pin-up style. Not only since blogging but, well basically ever. It is a killer outfit showing off my best curves and enhancing them to a nice hourglass shape. Most importantly it is also a great homage to the 50s and the pin-ups of that time. Not to forget that this day was also one of the first times  I (more or less) successfully managed to style my hair in a way that involved back-combing.

What Do You Think?

What do you think? Have you been to Plus North? Did you have the same dilemma? What is it you like to wear to events like this? I would love to hear from you!

Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone…

The Girls Of “Outside My Comfort Zone”

A few monts back I also stumbled across a blogging challenge called “Outside my comfort zone”. Ever since then been following the lovely ladies taking part. Here are some of these ladies:

Mookies Life
Natty Nikki
Feeling Flabulous
Just me Leah
Big Fat Betty
A Wheelbarrow Full Of Style

These bloggers continuously question their own self image and  what they are comfortable with. These ladies inspired me to take things the next level and take a big step outside my comfort zone myself.

Me In A Jumpsuit?

I have always loved the look of Jumpsuits on other people, but I never dared to try one. Inspired by the #OMCZ Ladies I deecided it was time to finally change that.

I was quite excited when my New Look Inspire Aztec Jumpsuit from  ASOS  arrived. I also was a bit nervous, about how I would look and feel in it, especially as it was a double step outside my comfort zone. Not only is it a jumpsuit but also showing a lot of arm and shoulder.

Then I put it on and unexpectedly, I loved it.

Its light fabric, the bandeau design and the wide cut legs make this jumpsuit perfect for a hot summer day. In my opinion it is a great choice for the office as well as for the beach.

I was also pleasantly surprised that it was  long enough for me. Quite often, and particularly in leggings, trouser legs are about 5-10cm to short for me. For your reference, I am 5’9. If you are much shorter, you might need up to turn up the legs.

Another First: Plateau Shoes

Another step out of my comfort zone were the plateau shoes that I am wearing in the pictures. As mentioned above I am quite tall so I don’t often wear very high heeled shoes and usually they are also much too uncomfortable to me for every day use. However, in this case the shoes I bought from Missguided have a relatively large plateau which makes the shoes actually quite comfortable.

Jumpsuit: New Look Inspire – Asos £16 (was £22.99)
Shoes: Missguided £24.99
Belt: Accessorize (Old Season)

Challenge yourself

I will definitely continue to challenge what my comfort zone and what I believe that looks good or me or not. There are many surprises.

What was your biggest step outside your comfort zone? Did you surprise yourself by loving something on yourself that you never thought you would. I would love to hear from you.
