Simply Be Spring/Summer 2015

A while back I was lucky enough to attend the Simply Be Spring/Summer Preview. This was an absolutely amazing event in an impressive London penthouse, involving some lovely wine, yummy canapés, a stunning new Spring & Summer collection and lots of lovely plus size blogger babes.

Simply Be SS15 UK Plus Size Blogger Event

If you follow my Instagram you will have most likely been able to follow the events on this day as it happened and will already have gotten a glimpse into the new Simply Be collection, if not, even the more of a reason to follow me on Instagram.

I so hope the bikini top will come up to a G-Cup. #SimplyBeSS15 #preview #plussizeswimwear #plussize

Simply Be’s have by now even added a video of this preview day on their youtube channel so that you can get a first hand impression of the event in moving pictures if you pay enough attention you can even glimpse of me wearing one of my favourite Missguided dresses in this video.

 My Favourite Trends & Pieces

While then these styles were merely a preview, these lovely pieces are now, bit by bit, making their way into the Simply Be online shop. A good occasion to give you  a bit of  a closer look at the collection and my favourites.

While I am not really a fan of this years florals I am very much in love with the the clean bright colours in an almost candy colour range in combination with clean strong cuts as well as the simple monochrome styles with a hint of 60s. And lastly not to forget I like the denim. For some reason it has recently not been easy to find a nice plus size denim jacket.

Great Swimwear 2015

The one thing though that absolutely stood out to me is the Swimwear. This year simply be have really outdone themselves with their swimwear. Great colour combined with vintage lines.

swimwear

Colour Block Bikini
Polka Dot Bikini
Sports Swimsuit
Mesh Swimsuit

What is great about these swimsuits, at least some, is that Simply Be also thought of us busty ladies when designing them. Wearing a G-Cup I am simply not able to wear a “normal” swimsuit without proper cups and/or under-wires. My mom always called it “pancakes” what swimsuits without proper cups would do to a large bust. No desirable shape… The black mesh swimsuit is one of those good examples, as it contains fixed foam cups supporting and keeping the bust in shape.

My absolute favourite piece is the monochrome one piece below which will instantly transform you into a plus size bond girl.

Retro Swimsuit

But also the Bikinis are not to be scoffed at.  After I made a great step of confidence and bought my very first Bikini last year (read more about this here) I might be buying Bikini number 3 and 4 this year…

What Is Your Favourite?

Which one is your favourite piece? Did you get one of these lovelies already

Missguided+ On A Girl In Size 24

The Missguided Lace Peplum Dress

I am more than excited that I was provided with a lovely peplum dress out of the new Missguided+ Plus-Size range that only launched yesterday, which I will be wearing to the Simply Be Spring /Summer Collection 2015 preview tonight. Check out the hashtag #SimplyBeSS15 if you want to watch live what will be happening.

Missguided Plus Size Lace Peplum Dress Ecom Picture

I am very much looking forward to wearing this Missguided+ beauty. The dress comes in a lace look but also in a leopard print. This might not be as extensive as a usual review but I just wanted to give you a first idea how this dress looks on a girl that is on the larger side of curvy, namely a size 24-26.

True To Size – Slightly Larger

The dress feels lovely and appears to be true to size. If anything, it is a bit on the larger side, as it fits me well while I am usually somewhere between a size 24-26 with a relatively large bust. Although I would say despite that, there is no need to size down.

More “Missguided On A Size 24”-Pictures To Come

I will be posting quite a few of these looks. So keep checking back here on the blog or make sure to follow me on Instagram. Obviously I won’t be modelling the whole 70 pieces, Unfortunately I can’t quite afford that, but I am sure I there will be quite a few interesting pieces and that there will enough to give you a good idea :). Let me know which pieces you would like to see.

Some of the things of which I can tell you that you will definitely be able to see them here soon are: the leopard print midi skirt and the beautiful cobalt blue wrap dress, in fact I  will be wearing the latter one to the British Plus Size Awards.

Complaints About Sizing Range A Little Unfair

I have seen quite a few people complaining about the sizing range ending at a size 24. I personally hope as well that the sizing range that I hope will be extended in future. However, complaining about the sizing range is unfair.

You do have to think about this from a business point of view. Missguided is a retailer that so far has only catered for women up to a size 14 (and the occasional 16). Immediately moving from this to a range which is upwardly open would be an incredibly risky move. As there is no guarantee as to how the collection performs.

Therefore this collection should be seen as a first entry into the plus-size business. Missguided are basically dipping their toe into the plus-size market. Trying to work out what works for them and what does not. I am sure there will be one or the other amazing piece and some great surprises in the future.

What Do You Think?

There are so many things I would love to her from you about. What you think about the dress and the range in general? Which of the items would you like to see on the blog?

After Dark in the Arndale Center- #MAAfterDark

An Exciting November

#MAAfterDark is next to the British Plus Size Awards one of the events I am very much looking forward this month.

#MAAfterDark is an exciting blogger event centred all around the perfect party dress, there will be lots of music, food, drink, fashion & beautifying. Each blogger attending the event got assigned a retailer they will be representing.

Representing Yours Clothing.

I am very excited to be representing Yours Clothing, which I am really looking forward to as it has been one of my favourite shops for quite a while now.

In the meantime I have already been extensively online window shopping their party range and have already found a few possible contenders for my personal perfect party dress. I am very much looking forward to a first shopping day at the Arndale Center today, trying a few of those dresses to narrow it down.

Finally An Inclusive Event

One thing I like about this event, is that this is a general fashion event, as compared to a plus-size specific event. These two genres are far too often separate, as the general fashion industry by far too often ignores that women beyond a size 20 might want to wear fashionable clothes. But thanks to the Arndale Center hosting several plus-size shops we can finally bring these two worlds together, well done!

More Choice On The High Street Please

I am sure all of you plus-size ladies will agree, and particularly all of us that have surpassed size 24 at any points in their life. that it can be quite difficult to find good and fashionable plus-size clothing on the high street. While it has become online a lot easier, there are still few shops that offer plus-size in their brick and mortar shops.

Here in Manchester for example I have once been very disappointed when I set out for a shopping day in the ginormous Trafford Center, only to find out that there was not a single piece of plus size clothing in the whole center.

And here is where the Arndale Center makes me quite happy, with actually offering at least some degree of choice by hosting several plus size shops.

Yours Clothing as well is contributing to giving us plus ladies more choice with constantly opening more and more shops. Here you can find a list of their current stores.

A Good Start

This is a good start, however I would very much wish more retailer would offer plus-size clothing and more plus-size retailers would open hight street stores.

My #FridayFavourites – First Edition

New Weekly Post: #FridayFavourite

I am planning to share with you every Friday from now on my favourite outfit of the week, my #FridayFavourite. Which I am aware is no clever pun, but it serves it’s purpose, a bit like #FollowFriday I guess…

#FridayFavourite is not meant to be an in depth review but rather to give you a glimpse into my day to day combinations,  showcase my new but also my older all time favourite pieces in always new combinations. This can be something that has never made the blog, or something that has already been on the blog but newly combined.

First Edition

I would guess that in most cases the photography would also be relatively low key, like the below.

Skirt – Anna Scholz
Body – Asos
Necklace – Missguided
Belt – Yours Clothing
Cardigan – Hand my down (given to me by my mom)

Finally A Bit Of Animal Print

This is an outfit I have been and am quite excited about, paricularly the skirt. I had been looking for some nice animal print, and particularly leopard print, for quite a while. The problem with leopard print though is that especially in the larger sizes it easily looks” cheap”. So I was dead excited when I found the skirt in an Anna Scholz Sale, it was reduced from £139 to £27 and it has not disappointed me. I am absolutely loving it.

The Perfect Autumn Office Outfit

I also love how the mesh insert of the high neck body goes with the amazing choker from Missguided. And finally the waterfall line cardigan is smart enough for the office but still dressing it down enough to make the combination of the otherwise maybe a little bit to glamorous for the office combination, the perfect autumn office outfit in my opinion.

Fashion Updates On Instagram

If  you want to keep up with little treasures like that, that I might love but that might not quite make it to the blog, for whatever reasons it might be (in most cases most likely time), follow me on Instagram.

What Do You Think?

I hope you like my new category and that you will come back to check for next weeks #FridayFAvourite In the meantime you could let me know what is your favourite autumn office outfit? Do you have a blog and maybe want to join me, showing me your #FridayFavourites? Let me know! Signoff

Challenge Your Body Shape Beliefs- The Jumpsuit

Amazing On Others – But On Me?

The jumpsuit used to be for me one of those pieces of clothing that you see and admire on other people but are convinced/sure that it just would not work for your body shape.

Where It All Changed

This all changed when this summer I ordered this lovely & light printed jumpsuit in a spur of the moment situation. To my surprise it did neither look “off” on me, nor did it highlight all the wrong areas of my body. In fact I actually loved it, despite me having to bare my arms and it was one of my favourite pieces of the summer.

If you want to find out more about this jumpsuit just take a look at this blog post about stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Bye Bye Summer – Hello Autumn Wardrobe

Unfortunately Summer has come and gone and so I was clearing out my wardrobe to switch over from summer to autumn selection. One thing was clear, I needed more pieces suiting the weather and my new style.

“Socially Acceptable Onesies”

Jumpsuits are just amazing, they are basically socially acceptable onesies, incredibly comfortable but also very stylish. Although you will have to make sure to choose the right one for you. If you are like me particularly bigger in the belly section you should definitely make sure not too choose too tight cuts. I would recommend you have a look around, order a selection trying to find out which one is for you.

In My Wardrobe

These are the lovely plus-size jumpsuits that have made it into my autumn wardrobe:

From left to right:

  1. Pink Clove Wrap Front Jumpsuit (In Sale: Was £28, Now: £18)
  2. Club L Plus Size Mesh Insert Jumpsuit (In Sale: Was £49, Now: £22)
  3. ASOS CURVE Jumpsuit With Cold Shoulder

Oh and don’t forget you can currently get an extra 10% off sale items till Thursday 30th October 8am, using the code 10MORE

One of my favourite pieces between those is definitely this beauty:

Our Trip To The Reeperbahn

I was wearing this beauty to our visit on the Reeperbahn when we on our Germany trip for the Plus Size Fashion Days. Jumpsuits are the perfect outfit for sightseeing.

Especially with a cardigan jumpsuits are giving you just the right flexibility for a sightseeing day when you might feel warm from all the walking or in public transport or slightly cold outside during one of those windy transitional autumn days.

Not to forget they are also very comfortable for a long day on your feet, perfect style for having a coffee during the day and with a little make-up update also perfect for a drink in a hip bar in the evening.

My Favourite Cardigan

This cardigan, which I wore on this day out has made it on to my top list of favourite cardigans. I do very much like the star design on it, it has a great feel and for once isn’t a grey black or white cardigan. This lovely star patten cardigan is also part of the sale and currently reduced frrom £32 to £16 in the current (up to 70%) Asos Sale. Although you will need to be quick, most sizes are already sold out

Challenge Your View Yourself

If there is one thing I have learned that is really important for us plus-size ladies over the last few months of blogging then it it is to challenge style rules, not only societal rules on what large women should or should not wear, but mostly your own view of yourself.

You might have tried a piece on ages ago and that particular one might not have sat right, or one of the numerous style experts online will once again have given great style advice on what larger ladies stay away from. Don’t let this make you miss out.

Try it on!

It is so worth it to occasionally try a piece you think you might look ridiculous in. The worst thing that can happen is that you will either send it back or in the store put it back on the hanger. Generally the rule is, if in doubt, try it on! And if there is something out there you have never tried on (like me a while ago with my very first bikini) get out there and try it on!

The best thing that can happen is that you open up a whole new world of styles looks for yourself. And on top of that it feels amazing. This can open up a whole new confidence or a completely different way you see yourself

Obligatory Touristy Pictures

And to finish the post off, here a some touristy pictures four your pleasure. Unless you would like to see the slide show… 😉

What Do You Think?

Have you been suprised by a piece of clothing before, of which you thought it would be so wrong for your body type and love now? What do you think about Jumpsuits? What is your favourite autumn wardrobe piece? I would love to hear from you.

The Hamburg #PSFdays Runway Show

An Impressive Fashion Show

While I am overall still quite new in the whole plus size blogging szene  I can say I have seen by now quite a few runway shows and this one was by far the most impressive so far…

While I had been a bit disappointed by the PSFdays marketplace, compared to British events, the fashion show was really something else here. Not only was it in the most glamorous setting I have seen so far it was also the best choreographed, varied and planned out fashion show I have seen so far, if anything, a bit long.

The Show Before The Show

The show began long before the actual runway show. So many women had an amazing effort and come in absolutely stunning outfits. I love it that the event had a little red carpet area in which a team of photographers immortalised all of those stunning looks.

Given how many amazing women there were this night I actually quite proud that I have made it on the official collection of red carpet pictures.

Pictures courtesy of andreasgrav.com

I have left Germany about 5 years ago and the state of plus-size fashion really was not great at that time. So it was even more amazing to see how far plus-size fashion has come in Germany in this time.

Thank you Tanja

The show was hosted by Tanja Marfo, the organiser of the event, blogger at Kurvenrausch, Make-Up-Artist and most recently founder of the new Kurvenrausch plus size model agency, all in all a very busy women.

She led through the evening supported by Eric Schroth. The two did a good job of leading through the evening and I loved how the two looked together.

During the show I even got mentioned during the show, as one of the international guests, although the got slightly wrong where I am from, they might have said I am from London instead of Manchester, but I will forgive them…

The Runway Show

Ther was everything in the beautiful fashion show, from plus-size workwear, over plus-size evening wear, some plus-size lingerie and even a few great causal pieces for lounging about at home in style. I will spare you from going through each designer, label and piece separately. I very much prefer to share a few impressions and show you some of my personal highlights.

I would encourage you though to have a nosey on the websites of the labels yourself having a bit of a closer look round. There is a lot to discover.

The Labels

During the show I actually lost count how many labels participated. The show consisted of a varied mix of local boutiques, international retailers and a few independent Designers.

Represented Were:

Most likely I actually forgot 2-3 but I will update this list over the next days in case I did. In case you notice I did, just let me know in the comments 🙂

A Few Highlights…

While I loved seeing the variety, there were a few things that stood out to me:

Miss Molly – Online Underwear

Plus-Size, Germany and beautiful underwear: 3 things that still don’t appear to go much together. When I left Germany 5 years ago it seemed basically impossible to find a bra in my size, online or offline.

While we were a bit disappointed that there was no dessous retailer at the market place, it was nice to at least see a few beautiful and actually also sexy pieces in the runway show, thanks to Miss Molly. Although the website does need a makeover…

Dagmar Gräf – Plus-Size Trousers

At the market place I ended up in a conversation next to a clothing rail full of lots of varied and fashionable plus-size trousers. The conversation was about the fact that on blogs as well as events one does not really see many trousers.

We wondered if this was due to the women or due to the lack of trousers. Looking back at catalogues and the offerings online, what you usually see there is  leggings, jeggings, office trousers and the occasional office trousers, if you ignore track suit and pyjama bottoms. There is definately a lack of fashionable trousers.

I am happy that Dagmar Gräf is planning to change this. Looking at the collection I can say that  I would happily wear almost every single piece of what I have seen of the collection. Unfortunatelly we will have to wait till January till these beauties will hit the market.

Adam Brody – Timeless Yet Innovative Glamour

I loved seeing Adam Brody‘s pieces. While most of the fashion will most likely be far out of my price range I loved almost every single piece of them. Not only that, they had this timeless feel to them that their style might last you a lifetime and from the look of it (keeping in mind this was judged from a distance), it appeared that these lovely pieces might actually have the quality to match it.

Was fascinated me about Adam Brody was that while his fashion appeared timeless and classic on the one hand each piece had an unique innovative style about it. Well let’s stop here. I start sounding like a pretentious, overpriced fashion magazine. I rather let the picture speak.

Dear Adam Brody: Can I please wear this for the British Plus Size Awards…

The Red Carpet  – Meeting A Few German Bloggers

I also finally had the chance to meet a few German bloggers. I briefly bumped into Elli from Curvy Fashionelli, Birgit from Charming Curves and Jennifer from Dressing these Curves with who I actually remembered to take a picture.

All in all meeting the German bloggers is what I would say I have missed out the most on during this trip.

I would have loved to get to know each of them better and meet all the others that have been there. In hindsight I would say we should have organised a bloggers lunch or something similar.

What do you think?

Did you go to the #PSFdays? Which of the red carpet looks is your favourite? Have you discovered a new label/designer for yourself? Let me know in the comments.

Lots of love.
