When it comes to my appearance & weight I have so often heard things like “Just put the pizza down and skip the donuts for once” often unsolicited…. So many people seem to find it hard to believe that I am not stuffing my face 24/7 with junk food ordering 4 take aways a day after having a full fried breakfast until they actually spent some proper time with me and see what I eat.
Many larger people out there actually have much healthier diets than you might think, eating quite well and with pretty healthy food (maybe a *little* too much of it, though). And no this is no “diet food shop” – this is ‘normal food’ & a pretty regular shop for me.
I, like many others, have gotten big by serial dieting, each time putting on a little more and each time wrecking my metabolism a little more. 20 years of guilt and weight fluctuations have messed with my head, metabolism, self-esteem and body as a whole.
So I have decided to skip the diets and try to live every day being the best & healthiest version of myself that I can be today, eating well, exercising & sleeping more. If that leads to weight loss great but should nothing happen I would still love my body just as much!
This is what body positivity and health at any size truly are about. Focusing on health & not size. Doing for your health what you can, not postponing “living” and “being worthy” till you have reached that magical number on your scale. Something so many of us have done, watching life pass us by while hating ourselves
Live now! Eat well! Move your body! Sleep well and a lot! And most importantly love yourself! And take care of yourself!
I would love to hear your opinion. Let me know what you think. I would also love to hear if you have made any similar experiences? How do you deal with it?
Since I learned to love Bikinis I have added more and more of to my collection. By now I have lost count of how many bikinis I own. And although my collection grew steadily, for some reason I did not end up sharing those beautiful swimwear pieces with you. So I thought it was more than high time to at least share my very favorite Bikini of the 2016 season with you – especially as I took some great pictures when I was on a short holiday at the beach earlier this year.
Forever 21 – My Favourite Place For Swimwear
This beautiful plus size bikini is from Forever 21. I only really took note of them last year. Since then they have though not disappointed me when it comes to plus size swimwear. They had absolutely stunning bikinis but also two pieces during both swimwear seasons. Next year they will definitely be amongst the first sites I that will check for the new swimwear. I do have high hopes for the swimwear season 2017.
Beautiful Colour, Great Hold & Sexy Detailing
I do love it’s beautiful turquoise color and the harness like detailing even more – a subtle but sexy detail. The best thing about Forever 21 bikini tops though is the hold & comfort they provide.
I am wearing a 3x and it covers and lifts my bust nicely without squashing or creating a third boob. There will be quite some leeway regarding the bust sizes the top will support – due to the stretch fabric. I am however not sure how it is going to support smaller breasts, as the smaller the breast the less will be the stretch and with it the lift. For reference, my bra size is around a 42H in combination with a clothing size 24/26. Should your bust be much smaller, it might be worth sizing down to a size 2x. Probably you should even consider ordering both sizes, even if you are otherwise the same size as me.
What About You?
Which retailer is your go-to bikini or swimwear shop? Have you dared to wear a bikini yet? What does your favourite swimsuit look like?
For most of this year’s I was thinking this year I would not be able to make it to this year’s Curve Fashion Festival. A real shame as I really loved the event last year. There is just nothing better than a day full of fabulous fashion and being surrounded by lots of amazing like-minded fat babes. Luckily Simply Be swooped in as my saviours from missing out and invited me as one of their bloggers to the event and not only that they even went to the effort to send me a little surprise care package for the event.
I and trains just do not get along. So after missing the first train I was finally on my way and tought some lovely ladies who were part of a hen party the secret of putting on makeup on the train which I acquired over many years of commuting to school. Ultimately it is all about the timing and avoiding contact with the back of the seat or any other surfaces – but I guess this is a topic for a whole of a another post. The hen party girls at least suggested I should start a youtube series about this. Who knows, I might ;).
Finally in Liverpool, I immediately dove into the action and like always there was so much to soak in. Tons of amazing brand stands, one fashion show after the other and lots of great talks and expert panels, not to forget so many amazing blogger ladies.
Like always I was busy soaking all this up that I turn into to worst blogger and forget to take pictures of everything. In future I think I have wear some sort of alarm or pay somebody to keep pinching me if I forget to take pictures for too long.
While I am usually a fan for colourful outfits I decided to stick to black for today but not less daring. I felt like it was time to give my Asos crop top another outing which I first wore in this post along with my Missguided skater skirt and yours clothing kimono. All pieces are old season but nonetheless I don’t think that I looked out of date.
Knowing events like this, opting for layers is usually the best option. You never know if you are going to end up in a boiling or freezing exhibition hall. It was definitely a good decision to opt for such a light base outfit. Except when I was travelling, there was absolutely no need for the leggings, cardigan or jeans jacket that I had on me. In fact I wished I would have had a fan on me.
There are times when I do still feel a little self-conscious in a crop top and keep trying to adjust it. I do love this outfit thhoughI just wished I would have been at least a tiny bit more tanned though.
Where I did not forget to get my camera out were those fantastic runway shows. Not only were they showing off an amazing range of bodies but also a great range of ages from a size 16 to 32 from teenager to stunning grey hair all was represented and all looked absolutely stunning. London New York, Milan & Paris Fashion Week take note and learn – this is how you do diversity.
Here are some of the great pieces and stunning models that were on show on the day.
Want That Trend
Out of all the Runway Shows my favourite show & line was the new plus size range by Holly Hagan, in cooperation with Want That Trend. While all the other designers have done an amazing job, I believe that this range has taken it just one step further. It is an unapologetic range that picks up all the current autumn trends in the most flattering and sexy way. But not only that, it is not a separate plus size collection – just a collection. Their range comes in a size 8-32 and makes no difference between straight and plus size in neither style, cut nor price. Well done!
And here we come to the best bit where I can brag just a “little” . Holly actually ended up announcing the launch of the collection featuring a picture of little old me posing next to her in same dress she was wearing.
Catching Up With & Making New Friends
It was really great to meet so many amazing bloggers and plus-size ladies. Being surrounded by so many like-minded & strong women (and men) is undoubtedly the best apecst of events like this. This is not only a great inspiration & encouragement it is also a great boost for the self esteem not to forget a great chance to catch up with and make new friends and acquaintances you meet far too rarely.
A great opportunity to do just that and to round this great day off I joined some lovely ladies including Lolly, Amber, Sam, Freckles, & Nikee eating far too much at Reds True Barbecue in Liverpool. If you love some ribs, smoked meat or a good barbecue sauce this is definitely the place to be. I have to warn you though, come hungry and prepared to take a doggy bag home with you. The portions are as massive as they are yummy.
Yes, you heard right…. I am not sure if you thought about that headline the same thing I thought, but when I read about this event my exact thoughts were “This sounds so random I just can’t miss this” and it did not disappoint.
While I was initially hoping for Charlotte or Hollie I realised that by not having watched any actual TV for ages I had missed about 4 seasons and had absolutely no idea anymore who was or wasn’t part of Geordie Shore. The celeb guest finally turned out to be Kyle Christie from a very recent season and was a pleasant and nice person. Unfortunately I have to disappoint you none of us got mortal on this day and there was nobody “tashing on” to spot anywhere. I cannot speak for his behaviour in the season having missed it, but at least in that setting no Geordie Shore craziness or similar antics to detect. Just a normal lad with pretty cool tattoos….
Now I am actually half tempted of catching up on the seasons I missed.
A Game Of Laser Quest
The game took place in Prestons Laster Quest which is also the home of Escape Rooms. It was a good old fashioned boys against girls battle between Kyle & his friends/entourage he had brought with him and us, a group of bloggers etc and the lovely Steph from Ledigo PR (Manchester’s favourite PR Executive).
It was good fun despite it being stupidly hot at the time. The last time I had played I had done quite well, but at that time I had found something like a “sniper position”. What I mean by this is a somewhat elevated point that most people can’t see well and don’t go past while you can see most of the battlefield. End-result, this time, was that I was constantly taken out in both matches, with a slightly improved result in the second match. Ultimately I placed both times somewhere in the bottom half. However, whatever the outcome was, I had a real great time playing.
A Quick OOTD – This Is A Fashion Blog After All
To finish off, let’ bg2s have a look at what I was wearing on the day, this is a plus-size fashion blog after all… 🙂 I did dig out one of my favourite skirts again that I had actually forgotten for a while, my ASOS CURVE Pleated Skater Skirt (not available anymore) that I wore in one of my early OOTDs along with my Nicky Rockets: “Do You Want Curves With That” shirt that I bought at Plus North.
Loving Laser Quest
All in all a fun yet sweaty day. I will happily play a game of laser quest whenever I get the opportunity, if I am good at it or not (spoiler I am not) it is fun anyway. So if you want to invite me to a match around Manchester, I am game! (See what I did there).
Did You Have A Match Recently?
Like always I am interested in what you have to say. Are you a fan of Laser Quest or Geordie Shore maybe? Who is your favourite member of the Geordie Shore Gang? What activity would you like to do with one of them if you could choose?
I have always struggled to find good plus-size sportswear. I only new of very few places to look and what was available was either far too expensive or boring and unshapely. SimplyBe and their sportswear section was pretty much the only place where I was able to find a few things.
As I have recently started to try working on a more active life I started to keep my eyes more open if I can not find here or there a few unexpected gems and in fact I came across one of those gems while going shopping for food.
Asda – Plus-Size Up To A Size 24
I keep forgetting that Asda’s George does do plus-size clothes, at least up to a size 24. So when I was recently changing up my shopping routine I came across this pink hashtag themed shirt. I real gem to find.
Althoug at the moment they unfortunately not have any sportswear. At the moment they only have swimwear although keeping the plus-size sections to swimsuits, not offering any bikinis. I guess think though it will definately worth keeping an eye out as I am sure they will have some nice gym wear here and there.
The trousers are from another one of my recent discoveries for great plus-size exercise clothes, H&M Sportswear. The trousers I wear in the picture are unfortunately sold out by now but they do have some other great things still in their offering at the moment
Although I still have to find the right size for me. I am somewhere between a size 24 and a size 26. I have multiple versions of these trousers in multiple sizes as I really like them. H&M goes up to a size 3xl, I usually wear a size 2xl in other clothes but for these trousers 2xl appears a little small and 3xl appears a little wide, but unfortunately I do have the issue with the slowly sliding sports trousers with most of them, either due to them being too small. I hope that with maybe toning up a little bit or maybe by losing a little weight that the 2xl will end up to fit even better over time.
Top – Asda
Bottoms – H&M
Trainers – Asics
What Do You Think?
Do also have the same problem of the sliding sports trousers when you run or exercise in general? Have you found the solution or perfect trousers to solve the problem?
Where do you buy your sportswear or now of any other places that are hidden gems for plus size sports-wear?
While there is a lot of work and effort that has to go into blogging it obviously has its perks. What I am writing about today is, next to an excuse for impulse buys and shopping sprees despite being broke, one of the prime example of those perks: An invitation to brunch – yum!
Neighbourhood is a Manhatten style bar and restaurant and offers modern European and US-influenced food. It has recently undergone major renovations and menu updates and to celebrate the new brunch menu and so they invited some local bloggers to taste some of their yummy new brunch dishes.
We got to taste some absolutely yummy american style pancakes, which are extra thick pancakes in a little stack just as you always see in all those american programs and films. Usually I am more of a thin pancake or even Crepe kind of girl but those were amazing, I have not hat pancakes as fluffy as these in a long time.
This was followed by a luxury version of the good old british classic of sausage & egg butty which can be described in only one word. YUM!
And the final dish was for each of us our personal choice of eggs from simple scrambled eggs over poached eggs with avocado to eggs benedict and more. I always wanted to try eggs benedict so I grabbed the chance, although with a little twist. Neighbourhood is not only offering the classic but also an adapted version called eggs norwegian exchanging the classic bacon with salmon – this does not only sound like a dream it really is amazing.
For the ordinary mortal the brunch at Neighbourhood comes with two courses and is served every Saturday from 10am – 2pm for £35 pp. The food is delicious & to put the cherry on top it also comes with bottomless mimosas, bloody marys and obviously unlimited refill coffee (including cappuccino etc.) – so it’s all in all absolutely perfect for a catch up with the girls.
Lana from Lindy Bop – My OOTD
For a posh brunch like this, I wore one of my recent favourite dresses which obviously is once again a vintage dress – the Lindy Bop Lana Dress in a Size 26. The great thing about this dress is that it also comes in many different prints, however like with most Lindy Bop dresses you have to be a bit careful about the sizing as it runs a little bits small.
