Missguided+ On A Girl In Size 24

The Missguided Lace Peplum Dress

I am more than excited that I was provided with a lovely peplum dress out of the new Missguided+ Plus-Size range that only launched yesterday, which I will be wearing to the Simply Be Spring /Summer Collection 2015 preview tonight. Check out the hashtag #SimplyBeSS15 if you want to watch live what will be happening.

Missguided Plus Size Lace Peplum Dress Ecom Picture

I am very much looking forward to wearing this Missguided+ beauty. The dress comes in a lace look but also in a leopard print. This might not be as extensive as a usual review but I just wanted to give you a first idea how this dress looks on a girl that is on the larger side of curvy, namely a size 24-26.

True To Size – Slightly Larger

The dress feels lovely and appears to be true to size. If anything, it is a bit on the larger side, as it fits me well while I am usually somewhere between a size 24-26 with a relatively large bust. Although I would say despite that, there is no need to size down.

More “Missguided On A Size 24”-Pictures To Come

I will be posting quite a few of these looks. So keep checking back here on the blog or make sure to follow me on Instagram. Obviously I won’t be modelling the whole 70 pieces, Unfortunately I can’t quite afford that, but I am sure I there will be quite a few interesting pieces and that there will enough to give you a good idea :). Let me know which pieces you would like to see.

Some of the things of which I can tell you that you will definitely be able to see them here soon are: the leopard print midi skirt and the beautiful cobalt blue wrap dress, in fact I  will be wearing the latter one to the British Plus Size Awards.

Complaints About Sizing Range A Little Unfair

I have seen quite a few people complaining about the sizing range ending at a size 24. I personally hope as well that the sizing range that I hope will be extended in future. However, complaining about the sizing range is unfair.

You do have to think about this from a business point of view. Missguided is a retailer that so far has only catered for women up to a size 14 (and the occasional 16). Immediately moving from this to a range which is upwardly open would be an incredibly risky move. As there is no guarantee as to how the collection performs.

Therefore this collection should be seen as a first entry into the plus-size business. Missguided are basically dipping their toe into the plus-size market. Trying to work out what works for them and what does not. I am sure there will be one or the other amazing piece and some great surprises in the future.

What Do You Think?

There are so many things I would love to her from you about. What you think about the dress and the range in general? Which of the items would you like to see on the blog?

Lots of love

Ursula The Sea Witch – The Disney Crash Diet (rant ahead)

A Great Woman – (If You Ignore The Evil)

If you follow my blog you will have seen that I dressed up as Ursula this Halloween. I absolutely love Ursula, although I was terrified of her as a child. If you ignore the evil for a minute, Ursula is a great woman & one of the few cases of body diversity in the Disney Universe

A New Character?

Getting ready for the party I was looking online for some images, to make sure my make-up was spot on. I came across a few images of a stick thin purple woman. To me it appeared to be a different character. Looking a bit deeper into it, trying to find out who that was, it I found that this actually was supposed to be Ursula, the new re-imagined Ursula…

The Disney Crash Diet (rant ahead)

As it seems in 2012 Disney released their so called “Disney Villain Designer Collection”, which I had not heard about yet.

Disney stated on their Blog that this collection is  “designed and carefully crafted to capture the essence of evil at its best dressed, the Villains Designer Collection re-imagines the stylish wickedness of classic Disney Villains.”

Image: http://www.huffingtonpost.com

Why it was necessary for this”re-imagination” to let Ursula undergo either a a gastric bypass, develop severe anorexia or let live for 2 years on the cabbage diet is beyond me.

Ursula – A Self-Confident Curvy Woman

Ursula is a self-confident women who owns her own sexuality and knows how to show off her curves. Which to me was an important part of the character, becoming a stick thin villain, she becomes just another Cruella De Ville or however that women in the Emperors New Groove was called. Can you image the scene during the song “Poor Unfortunate Souls” when she stresses the importance of “body language” with her in her new image… I can’t. (If you are not sure which scene I mean, here it is

Bye Bye Body Diversity

With her having lost at least three quarters of her body  she is  barely recognisable and not only has not only lost most of her appeal, identity and an important part of her character, Disney has also lost also one it’s few moments of body diversity.

What Do You Think?

What do you think about the “new re-imagined Ursula” ? Can you imagine the film Little Mermaid” with this version of Ursula and her having the same effect and character? Let me know

Challenge Your Body Shape Beliefs- The Jumpsuit

Amazing On Others – But On Me?

The jumpsuit used to be for me one of those pieces of clothing that you see and admire on other people but are convinced/sure that it just would not work for your body shape.

Where It All Changed

This all changed when this summer I ordered this lovely & light printed jumpsuit in a spur of the moment situation. To my surprise it did neither look “off” on me, nor did it highlight all the wrong areas of my body. In fact I actually loved it, despite me having to bare my arms and it was one of my favourite pieces of the summer.

If you want to find out more about this jumpsuit just take a look at this blog post about stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Bye Bye Summer – Hello Autumn Wardrobe

Unfortunately Summer has come and gone and so I was clearing out my wardrobe to switch over from summer to autumn selection. One thing was clear, I needed more pieces suiting the weather and my new style.

“Socially Acceptable Onesies”

Jumpsuits are just amazing, they are basically socially acceptable onesies, incredibly comfortable but also very stylish. Although you will have to make sure to choose the right one for you. If you are like me particularly bigger in the belly section you should definitely make sure not too choose too tight cuts. I would recommend you have a look around, order a selection trying to find out which one is for you.

In My Wardrobe

These are the lovely plus-size jumpsuits that have made it into my autumn wardrobe:

From left to right:

  1. Pink Clove Wrap Front Jumpsuit (In Sale: Was £28, Now: £18)
  2. Club L Plus Size Mesh Insert Jumpsuit (In Sale: Was £49, Now: £22)
  3. ASOS CURVE Jumpsuit With Cold Shoulder

Oh and don’t forget you can currently get an extra 10% off sale items till Thursday 30th October 8am, using the code 10MORE

One of my favourite pieces between those is definitely this beauty:

Our Trip To The Reeperbahn

I was wearing this beauty to our visit on the Reeperbahn when we on our Germany trip for the Plus Size Fashion Days. Jumpsuits are the perfect outfit for sightseeing.

Especially with a cardigan jumpsuits are giving you just the right flexibility for a sightseeing day when you might feel warm from all the walking or in public transport or slightly cold outside during one of those windy transitional autumn days.

Not to forget they are also very comfortable for a long day on your feet, perfect style for having a coffee during the day and with a little make-up update also perfect for a drink in a hip bar in the evening.

My Favourite Cardigan

This cardigan, which I wore on this day out has made it on to my top list of favourite cardigans. I do very much like the star design on it, it has a great feel and for once isn’t a grey black or white cardigan. This lovely star patten cardigan is also part of the sale and currently reduced frrom £32 to £16 in the current (up to 70%) Asos Sale. Although you will need to be quick, most sizes are already sold out

Challenge Your View Yourself

If there is one thing I have learned that is really important for us plus-size ladies over the last few months of blogging then it it is to challenge style rules, not only societal rules on what large women should or should not wear, but mostly your own view of yourself.

You might have tried a piece on ages ago and that particular one might not have sat right, or one of the numerous style experts online will once again have given great style advice on what larger ladies stay away from. Don’t let this make you miss out.

Try it on!

It is so worth it to occasionally try a piece you think you might look ridiculous in. The worst thing that can happen is that you will either send it back or in the store put it back on the hanger. Generally the rule is, if in doubt, try it on! And if there is something out there you have never tried on (like me a while ago with my very first bikini) get out there and try it on!

The best thing that can happen is that you open up a whole new world of styles looks for yourself. And on top of that it feels amazing. This can open up a whole new confidence or a completely different way you see yourself

Obligatory Touristy Pictures

And to finish the post off, here a some touristy pictures four your pleasure. Unless you would like to see the slide show… 😉

What Do You Think?

Have you been suprised by a piece of clothing before, of which you thought it would be so wrong for your body type and love now? What do you think about Jumpsuits? What is your favourite autumn wardrobe piece? I would love to hear from you.

Dont Miss The Anna Scholz Sale

Anna Scholz – Luxury Plus Size Designer

I had firmly promised myself not to spend any more money on clothes this month… and then the Anna Scholz sale came along…

Anna Scholz really is a great designer. I might not love all of her designs, but there are definitely some awesome, awesome pieces in her collection. One of my all-time favourites is a stunning peplum dress with the most stunning print I have ever seen that I have reviewed a while back.

A Sale That Definitely Caught My Attention

As much as I like Anna’s creations, unless she does a cooperation with a high street retailer like recently with Simply Be in the UK and sheego in Germany. So, when I saw the below status about the current sale on Facebook, it really caught my attention.

It might be a bit difficult to see in the numbers in this image. They have reduced dresses in the £200 to £420 range to £37-£85 and there are skirts that were in the range of £139 to £189 are now between £27-37. You  are getting the gist of this.

So if you are like me, liking Anna’s collection but don’t quite have the cash for it, it might be really worth it to head over to the Anna Scholz page and have a look round.

So as said above, that has made me break my no-spending promise, but I won’t tell you yet what. This will be revealed in a hopefully fabulous outfit post.

What Do You Think?

What do you think about Anna Scholz. Is there any piece that might make you break your spending limits? Let me know in the comments. I would love to hear from you?

#OOTD Lady Vintage Polka Dot – Plus North

One Of My Long Loved Dresses

This lovely dress was my #OOTD (Outfit of the day) on the second day of Plus North. I have had this Lady Vintage London for ages and am still absolutely in love with it, like I was from the very first second. However, somehow up till now it had not made it’s way onto my blog yet. Although this is the dress I am wearing in my header picture on the top right.

The Lady Vintage Tea Dress

This is one of Lady Vintage London‘s tea dresss just like the dress in this post, Unfortunately they don’t offer this style anymore in the plus-size versions (meaning above a size 22).

I have worn this dress a thousand times and it is and will always be one of my dresses. To be honest you just can’t beat polka dots .  Polka dots are just a timeless classic and an amazing throwback to the 50s. The cut of this dress not only just really comfortable but also very figure flattering, especially with a thin belt. I also love to wear it with a cardigan, which goes really well with it,  for the chillier days.

A Plea To Lady Vintage London

So I can only plea:

Dear Lady Vintage London, I plead with you, please offer your tea dresses again in sizes larger than 22.

If you do, I can promise you I will most likely very soon own one of them in almost every single pattern of the plus-size tea dresses you will offer.

In Love With The Colour

I am absolutely loving the colour of this dress, especially after I was for years I not able to wear blue as it basically made me look “dead” complexionwise. This changed when I dyed my hair darker. The happier Iam now how well this lovely blue still goes with my new orange hair and actually even nicely “pops” the orange colour due to the strong contrast.

Where You Can Get (A Similar) Dress

If you are one of those lucky people that fit in a size 22 or below, here is where you get them, maybe not in polka dots but in a lot of other lovely patterns. While they offer neither the tea dresses in the larger sizes nor the tea dresses in polka dots anymore, Lady Vintage London has recently released quite a few polka dot dresses in the larger sizes (going up to a 32), which you can get here.

One of those cuts offered now in polka dots is the lovely “Estella Dress” which I absolutely love and bought in several patterns as soon as it came out (some of which are not offered anymore). Now that it is available also in polka dots I might be tempted again. Although owning one dress in 4-5 different patterns (currently 3) might border to madness. I am actually considering wearing one version of this dress to the upcoming Plus Size Fashion Days in Hamburg

“Flawless” by Missguided

On this day I was also showing off my new “Flawless” earrings from Missguided. A company that is most likely not on most of your radars. While in several interviews they have stated that a plus-size range is very likely to follow at some point, up till now they offer a clothing range up to a size 18.

However, I have currently really discovered them as a great place for  shoe and especially jewellery. To me they are becoming, despite being a fast fashion retailer, bit by bit a real replacement for my favourite jewellery shop in Germany, Bijou Brigitte, which I still dearly miss since I moved to the UK.

I love these earrings. The hoopstyle reminds a bit of the 90s but they also have something 50sy about them of which I can’t quite put my fingers on yet, but I do like whatever that is. They went bang on with my outfitand and especially my hair on that day, but most importantly, the “Flawless” statement” sends a great and important body positive message!

What Do You Think?

Would you like Lady Vintage London to bring back their tea dress in the plus sizes? What do you think about Missguided and have you ordered from them before?

I would love to hear from you.
