#OOTD Lady Vintage Polka Dot – Plus North

One Of My Long Loved Dresses

This lovely dress was my #OOTD (Outfit of the day) on the second day of Plus North. I have had this Lady Vintage London for ages and am still absolutely in love with it, like I was from the very first second. However, somehow up till now it had not made it’s way onto my blog yet. Although this is the dress I am wearing in my header picture on the top right.

The Lady Vintage Tea Dress

This is one of Lady Vintage London‘s tea dresss just like the dress in this post, Unfortunately they don’t offer this style anymore in the plus-size versions (meaning above a size 22).

I have worn this dress a thousand times and it is and will always be one of my dresses. To be honest you just can’t beat polka dots .  Polka dots are just a timeless classic and an amazing throwback to the 50s. The cut of this dress not only just really comfortable but also very figure flattering, especially with a thin belt. I also love to wear it with a cardigan, which goes really well with it,  for the chillier days.

A Plea To Lady Vintage London

So I can only plea:

Dear Lady Vintage London, I plead with you, please offer your tea dresses again in sizes larger than 22.

If you do, I can promise you I will most likely very soon own one of them in almost every single pattern of the plus-size tea dresses you will offer.

In Love With The Colour

I am absolutely loving the colour of this dress, especially after I was for years I not able to wear blue as it basically made me look “dead” complexionwise. This changed when I dyed my hair darker. The happier Iam now how well this lovely blue still goes with my new orange hair and actually even nicely “pops” the orange colour due to the strong contrast.

Where You Can Get (A Similar) Dress

If you are one of those lucky people that fit in a size 22 or below, here is where you get them, maybe not in polka dots but in a lot of other lovely patterns. While they offer neither the tea dresses in the larger sizes nor the tea dresses in polka dots anymore, Lady Vintage London has recently released quite a few polka dot dresses in the larger sizes (going up to a 32), which you can get here.

One of those cuts offered now in polka dots is the lovely “Estella Dress” which I absolutely love and bought in several patterns as soon as it came out (some of which are not offered anymore). Now that it is available also in polka dots I might be tempted again. Although owning one dress in 4-5 different patterns (currently 3) might border to madness. I am actually considering wearing one version of this dress to the upcoming Plus Size Fashion Days in Hamburg

“Flawless” by Missguided

On this day I was also showing off my new “Flawless” earrings from Missguided. A company that is most likely not on most of your radars. While in several interviews they have stated that a plus-size range is very likely to follow at some point, up till now they offer a clothing range up to a size 18.

However, I have currently really discovered them as a great place for  shoe and especially jewellery. To me they are becoming, despite being a fast fashion retailer, bit by bit a real replacement for my favourite jewellery shop in Germany, Bijou Brigitte, which I still dearly miss since I moved to the UK.

I love these earrings. The hoopstyle reminds a bit of the 90s but they also have something 50sy about them of which I can’t quite put my fingers on yet, but I do like whatever that is. They went bang on with my outfitand and especially my hair on that day, but most importantly, the “Flawless” statement” sends a great and important body positive message!

What Do You Think?

Would you like Lady Vintage London to bring back their tea dress in the plus sizes? What do you think about Missguided and have you ordered from them before?

I would love to hear from you.

Plus North Leeds – My First Big Plus-Size Event

My First Big Plus-Size Fashion Event

This weekend I had an absolute amazing time at one of my first big plus-size blogger events: Plus North. It was a really fun, fashion & plus-size filled weekend which involved meeting lot’s of amazing ladies.

The Plus-Size Runway Shows

One of the big highlights were definitely the fashion shows in which Ann Harvey, Yours Clothing, Topsy Curvy, Simply Be, Curvissa, So Fabulous and Evans were showing a selection of their key pieces on some very fabulous plus-north visitors and plus-size blogger babes. It was absolutely amazing to see so many confident women showing off how comfortable felt in their bodies and showing off their confidence and love for themselves, an absolutely inspiring event!

The Exhibitors

All the brands that were showing off their newest trends in the runway shows also had little stalls at this event where we had a chance to check out their upcoming Autumn – Winter Collection up close and I have to say, I already have a by far too long wish-list.

Although some of the real gems of the stalls were actually those that had not been part of the shows.

Curvy Kate had brought some of their amazing & sexy bras with her and conducted tons of bra fittings and delivering some amazing uplifts. Chunky Cat Cuddler showed off some great and imaginative jewellery. I also finally saw Nicky Rockets T-Shirts up close.

Here I also learned about a new and interesting way of how to buy high class beauty products: Cohorted. They are offering each week 4 different products, the kind of product you would like to treat yourself to but might be just a bit out of your budget, to bring them to you cheaper due to the power of group buying.

Keep checking back I will give you a closer look at some of the exhibitors and their products over the next weeks, especially of those I could not resist and now call my own.

Showing Off My Little Makeover

Plus-North was a great opportunity for me to show off my style, my new hair and outfit. Before coming to the event I had basically gone through a whole little makeover.

I had my beloved Bettie Page fringe re-trimmed by Nicky from “Having A Hairmare?“. The benefit brow bar had taken care of my eyebrows . I had a complete home made hair colour makeover. If you follow me on twitter of facebook you might have already seen that I recently had a relatively extreme hair colour makeover thanks to some ebay ordered peroxide and Bleach London’s Tangerine Dream. And lastly I had a completely new outfit, which I had ordered specifically for plus-north using their next day delivery.

Finally meeting all those lovely ladies

But ultimately the best thing about plus north was to finally meet so many amazing & lovely blogger ladies, that are so often on my screen, finally in real life.  Obviously there was no way around to take some of those obligatory selfies:

Bottom right: A slightly blurry Becky from Does My Blog Make Me Look Fat?

What Do You Think?

Have you been to Plus North? What was your favourite of the day? What other blogger events have you been to? Are there any other blogger events you would recommend to me and would say I should not miss? Please let me know in the comments. I would love to hear from you!

OOTD: A relaxed shopping day in Germany – And a little bit of a rant…

My last weekend was rather eventful. We had been invited to a wedding in Germany. So I took Friday and Monday off and we spent an long weekend in Germany.

Arriving in Germany after a very early 4am wake up and a somewhat delayed flight , I realised that I had forgotten an important part of my wedding guest outfit. There was no way round it – I had to go shopping. Although to be honest I guess I would have done that anyway.

On that day it was not exactly very hot, but warmer than here in the UK. Tired as I was I needed to wear something simple and comfortable, so I ditched a few insecurities & body complexes for the sake of comfort.

I ended up wearing one of my favourite dresses, a Lady Vintage tea dress. It is a shame that they don’t offer this type of dress any more in  the larger sizes, otherwise I would probably own one in every pattern by now…

I combined the dress with some no frills accessories, my trekking sandals from Aldi, which was once again a comfort rather than a fashion choice and my very favourite oversized handbag which I picked up at a sample sale at work for very little money.

For a change I went completely sleeveless, showing one of my non favourite body areas, my upper arms. After I bound my hair in a pony tail, I also bound my fringe back, which I usually never do as I feel it makes my face look too round.

Despite all that I actually felt quite confident in this look. It was also the single most comfortable outfit to wear on a hot day to walk around a new city trying to find a shop that sells what I had forgotten at home. In hindsight I actually quite like what I was wearing.

I would love to say that I showed my upper arm fat, most of my legs etc. and nothing happened. However, unfortunately this was not quite the case.

Within the last minutes of walking back to the hotel, a couple drove past, weirdly pointing at me. They must then have parked round the corner and while they were walking past they were looking at me, in this typical obvious way of trying to look non obvious,  they were clearly giggling about me. There was a time when that would have hit me hard. Nowadays I just don’t understand that behaviour any more.

Over the years I have learned that I can wear whatever I want and my happiness is definitely not dependent on what 1 or 2 random idiots on the street think is funny or not.

I  have absolutely no idea what was going on in their heads. Especially given that they are usally not the most beautiful or “on trend” people either…

The bottom line is, there are idiots out there. There might be some people who can’t fit it in their tiny minds, that there are people that are different. However, this will not keep me from wearing what I like or from what I think is comfortable to me.

It is you that counts. The chances are that for each idiot out there, there are most likely many that either like what you wear or could not care less what you wear as long as you feel comfortable in it.

So I will continue to wear what I like and be who I am, and if I feel like it, I will present my arm fat. If somebody could explain to me what the heck is going on in these people’s little minds, please let me know…
