The Curve Fashion Fest 2016 – Runways, Babes & Plus Size Fashion

For most of this year’s I was thinking this year I would not be able to make it to this year’s Curve Fashion Festival. A real shame as I really loved the event last year. There is just nothing better than a day full of fabulous fashion and being surrounded by lots of amazing like-minded fat babes. Luckily Simply Be swooped in as my saviours from missing out and invited me as one of their bloggers to the event and not only that they even went to the effort to send me a little surprise care package for the event.

Fat Fashion Heaven

I and trains just do not get along. So after missing the first train I was finally on my way and tought some lovely ladies who were part of a hen party the secret of putting on makeup on the train which I acquired over many years of commuting to school. Ultimately it is all about the timing and avoiding contact with the back of the seat or any other surfaces – but I guess this is a topic for a whole of a another post. The hen party girls at least suggested I should start a youtube series about this. Who knows, I might ;).

Finally in Liverpool, I immediately dove into the action and like always there was so much to soak in. Tons of amazing brand stands, one fashion show after the other and lots of great talks and expert panels, not to forget so many amazing blogger ladies.

Like always I was busy soaking all this up that I turn into to worst blogger and forget to take pictures of everything. In future I think I have wear some sort of alarm or pay somebody to keep pinching me if I forget to take pictures for too long.

OOTD

ebay-photo-booth

While I am usually a fan for colourful outfits I decided to stick to black for today but not less daring. I felt like it was time to give my Asos crop top another outing which I first wore in this post along with my Missguided skater skirt and yours clothing kimono. All pieces are old season but nonetheless I don’t think that I looked out of date.

Knowing events like this, opting for layers is usually the best option. You never know if you are going to end up in a boiling or freezing exhibition hall. It was definitely a good decision to opt for such a light base outfit. Except when I was travelling, there was absolutely no need for the leggings, cardigan or jeans jacket that I had on me. In fact I wished I would have had a fan on me.

There are times when I do still feel a little self-conscious in  a crop top and keep trying to adjust it. I do love this outfit thhoughI just wished I would have been at least a tiny bit more tanned though.

Runway Shows

Where I did not forget to get my camera out were those fantastic runway shows. Not only were they showing off an amazing range of bodies but also a great range of ages from a size 16 to 32 from teenager to stunning grey hair all was represented and all looked absolutely stunning. London  New York,  Milan & Paris Fashion Week take note and learn – this is how you do diversity.

Here are some of the great pieces and stunning models that were on show on the day.

Want That Trend

Out of all the Runway Shows my favourite show & line was the new plus size range by Holly Hagan, in cooperation with Want That Trend. While all the other designers have done an amazing job, I believe that this range has taken it just one step further. It is an unapologetic range that picks up all the current autumn trends in the most flattering and sexy way. But not only that, it is not a separate plus size collection – just a collection. Their range comes in a size 8-32 and makes no difference between straight and plus size in neither style, cut nor price. Well done!

And here we come to the best bit where I can brag just a “little” . Holly actually ended up announcing the launch of the collection featuring a picture of little old me posing next to her in same dress she was wearing.

It was really great to meet so many amazing bloggers and plus-size ladies. Being surrounded by so many like-minded & strong women (and men) is undoubtedly the best apecst of events like this. This is not only a great inspiration & encouragement it is also a great boost for the self esteem not to forget a great chance to catch up with and make new friends and acquaintances you meet far too rarely.

A great opportunity to do just that and to round this great day off I joined some lovely ladies including Lolly, Amber, Sam, Freckles, & Nikee eating far too much at Reds True Barbecue in Liverpool. If you love some ribs, smoked meat or a good barbecue sauce this is definitely the place to be. I have to warn you though, come hungry and prepared to take a doggy bag home with you. The portions are as massive as they are yummy.

Have you been recently to any plus size events or are you planning to go to any events? Which event is your favourite that you cant wait for or love looking back to?

Get Glammed Up With BeGlam – App Launch Event

be glam - launch event collage

Everybody loves a little glam

If you are like me you will love to get proper glammed up once in a while when having a night out with the girls, going to any other sort of special event or sometimes simply just because. The only thing that does feel even better than glamming yourself up is getting glammed up – and there is a new kid on the blog when it comes to booking experts.

BeGlam - Mirror Polaroid

A Little Glam Can Go A Long Way For Body Positivity & Self Love

Getting glammed up really can do so much more than just getting you ready for a special event or a night out. Practising some self-love & self-care by trying out some new amazing makeup looks or getting your “hair did” can do soo much for your self-esteem and make you feel soo good about yourself and even your body.

This does make me think of “Cheap Thrills” by Sia.  It does express in a great way how treating yourself to a little makeover (and hitting the dance floor with your loved ones) can make you feel a million dollars.

Everybody needs a little glam once in a while. At least this is how I feel.

So What Is BeGlam & What Has It To Do With Getting Glammed Up?

Like I said earlier, the only thing that feels even better than glamming yourself up is getting glammed up with some professional help, making  you look your best and pampering yourself a bit – and this where BeGlam comes in.

BeGlam allows you to easily browse and book your local makeup artists and hair stylists. The great thing about freelance MUAs and stylists is that they will come to you rather than you having to go to their studio or salon, so this is perfect for a little pamper party at home or especially if you are looking for a somebody to do your wedding makeup and hair for you and your bridesmaids.

You can book via the website or the iPhone/iPad app. I believe an Android versions in planned and will follow soon. If you are interested, keep an eye on my Facebook page, I will let you know as soon as BeGlam will hit the Google Play Store.

Bubbly, Celebs & Makeovers At The Release Party

The release party  at the Artisan was good fun: Celebrity guests (Housewives of Cheshire), makeovers, tasty food and bubbly.

Black Bridesmaid Dresses
Oh and yes, I mentioned celebrities. Who they were. I was told they were part of the cast of The Real Housewives of Cheshire. I have to admit I would have not recognised them or had the faintest idea who they were wasn’t I told as I do not really watch that sort of show,  but once it was pointed out to me who they were it was actually interesting and nice to meet them.
I guess while this would have been an exciting point for many, it was a little lost on me.

However, celebs or not the event was great, you simply can’t beat the combination of bubbly, yummy food and  especially makeovers.

My OOTD

dressDress: ‘Ionia’ Sea Blue Polka Dot Tea Dress –  Lindy Bop
Shoes: Old Season – Deichmann

Here is a quick glimpse of what I wore on the day. The beautiful Lindy Bop  ‘Ionia’ Sea Blue Polka Dot Plus-Size Tea Dress. I do love this dress and I got a lot of compliments for it. I will fairly soon post a full review of this dress to give you a better idea and include some better pictures of what I mean by that.

I want to leave you with one little word of warning though: If you consider buying this dress and your boobs are a bit on the larger side, you will have to be careful with this dress.

What do I mean by that? Take a closer look at my left boob in the picture (a thing I did not expect to say today…) . You should see a seam going across my boob. If this dress would fit as it was intended, this seam should lead around my bust, not across it. In my case the seam luckily ends up bang in the middle of my boob wich makes it kind of look like it was intended this way and I more or less get away with it.

All in all a lovely dress that I very much love but I guess if you are on the more well endowed side you will have to try the dress on and see where this seam ends up on you.

What Makes You Feel Glamorous?

What do you do when you want to feel glamorous? Have you ever booked a freelance make-up artist, mobile hairdresser or maybe a mobile nail artist?

Now go out put your make-up on do your hair and hit the dance floor, hit the dance floor….

Boohoo I Am Skint – Plus-Size Summer Essential Bargains

No Shopping Sprees For Me This Summer

This summer I am a little broke… So unfortunately there was no way I could have done any big summer clothes hauls. Over the whole summer I was watching with This summer I am a little broke… So unfortunately there was no way I could have done any big summer clothes hauls.

A Bit Jealous Of The Colourful New Wardrobes

Over the whole summer I was watching other fashion bloggerswith a slight sense of jealousy  how they were showing off their lovely summer dresses. I am particularly jealous my newest blogger crush and discovery Boardroom Blonde. Just look at how colourful and bright her wardrobe is:

Screenshot from 2015-08-31 02:31:18

Woohoo – A Mini Haul Is Possible

So I was very, very happy when I once again was online window shopping when Boohoo came to the rescue. Boohoo in general offers very, very affordable clothing that even their plus size section does really deserve the label fast fashion, unlike the plus size section of some other retailers..

Bargains In The Summer Essential Section

A lot of their Summer Essentials section is currently up to 60% reduced and there are some real bargains in there.

I bought all of the below items for only £29

collection-shadow

Plus Nicola Printed Wide Leg Trouser – £4 (was 20)
Plus Rebecca Colour Block Skater Dress – black or blue- £5 (was £18)
Plus Natalie Side Slit T Shirt Maxi Dress – black or blue – £8 (was 16)
Plus Macy Strappy Front Bodysuit – black, grey, white – £12 (full price)

There are also lot’s of other lovely pieces in the sale  that I unfortunately had to leave behind, next to some lovely full price jumpsuits. Too many to all call them out. Just check them here. One last piece of the sale I still want to mention specifically is this dip back top (black/white/grey), as will be a central piece of an upcoming OOTD that will be live very soon. I still bought this at full price during the time I was offline you are now able to get this instead for £16 for £10.

Boohoo Dip Hem Plus Size Top

Plus Lizzy Extreme Dip Back Top

Dead Excited

The clothes might not be quite as colourful as Boardroom Blondes amazing wardrobe but I am still so, so looking forward to this little parcel arriving. There is just no better feeling than a bargain ;).

Always Worth To Have A Browse

This find is also once again proof that it  at times can be worth to have a quick browse online or instore even if you expect not to find anything in your price range and boohoo is always a good place for a bargain. Debz recently also has written an interesting post about an unexpected New Look bargain on the high street…

End Of Summer Sales Everywhere

So if you are skint like me at the moment, now is the time to have a good window shop as all the other usual retailers will right now run their end of summer sales or run a sale on their new season pieces to start to push those. So wherever you go boohoo, new look, asos, missguided or any other fast fashion low(ish) price retailer you will have a good chance to make a bargain. My asos summer sale wish list in fact is endless. If there is ever time for a bargain it is now and the boohoo sale is a great place to find one.

What Do You Think?

Have you come across a great bargain? Where and what did you get? Do you have a new blogger crush that we should not miss out on? Please drop me a comment below.

My very first British Hen Do – Wearing Lady Vintage

PicMonkey Collage

In June I am invited to another lovely English wedding. In fact actually to the wedding of my lovely friend who is and was important in so many little introductions to proper British culture and cultural experiences.

Like she pointed out in her comment she left on my About Me Page, she is responsible for my deep love of Doctor Who and she also worked with me in one of my first proper jobs in the UK, helping me navigate through the very peculiar British office politics she also invited me to my very first English Hen Do.

Recently there has been another big one of those big cultural experiences she invited me to her hen do. I have to admit, initially I was a bit afraid it would involve plastic penises or similarly cringe worthy things but a classy lady as Jess is this was not the case. We all were given our obligatory hen do sashes and obviously Jess was wearing her “learning bride” L together with a veil, but that just is a most.

Her hen do took us first to the Hard Rock Cafe, where we had some really nice burgers and the main party then took place here in Manchester in the Birdcage. This was also my very first drag show, so ultimately I had two firsts in a day. The show was great and it was fun to watch in the dancing breaks between the show pieces how many girl in the audience tried out their best on the stripper pole that was provided, getting bolder the further the night had progressed.

Although I have to admit that the night was not 100% plastic genital free. As the audience was full of hen dos that either wore suggestive costumes or had straws in a design you can imagine. For some reason there was also a guy dressed up as a traffic light wearing a traffic cone on his head… but I guess that is the normal audience in the birdcage and it actually really adds to the atmosphere.

So ultimately it was  a truly special night with some lovely ladies and some great memories.

11160005_10155551237880501_3116195641836840377_2

For this I wore one of my lovely Lady Vintage Dresses. To be honest I have had this dress for a while as it has been slightly too tight when I bought it, but I loved it just too much to send it back. Now that I have lost a (very) few pounds as I was unfortunately struck by a very uncomfortable lower back pain (every pound my back does not need to carry helps.), the dress fits a lot better and so has seen it’s very first night out.

Lady Vintage Plus Size Vintage Dress Blue With Bow

Like usually on this kind of occassions I have forgotten to take a proper picture but I might take a quick one at a later point and might either post a little addition to this post or just let you see it on my facebook page.

The dress is unfortunately not available on the Lady Vintage site anymore but especially now that they have launched “Lady Voluptuous” they always have a great range of plus-size vintage dresses and it always worth checking them out.

So now the big next step is choosing an outfit for the upcoming wedding and I really do not do well in deciding what to wear. So I guess very soon I will provide you with  few options and maybe you can help me by letting you know which ones you like most. I am actually even playing with running a Facebook vote or similar.

Skinny Models For Plus-Size – Why?

I have voiced in the past numerous times that I have absolutely no idea why the Plus-Size Industry keeps using models hardly ever larger than a size 12 and if we are lucky maybe a 14 and today this been highlighted once again.

Rebel Wilson In A Stunning Sequins Dress

Asos Curve shared yesterday on their Facebook page this lovely picture of Rebel Wilson in an absolutely stunning sequins dress out of their collection that she wore yesterday for a film premiere.

How Could I Overlook this?

I absolutely love this dress and was wondering how I could have overlooked this stunner when I was on the look out for a sequins dress for the Christmas season. However, clicking through to the website I realise why.

But see yourself:

sequin

ASOS CURVE Exclusive V-Neck Dress With Sequin Skirt – £35

Nothing against the model, she is a very beautiful girl and even the poses are not even the problem. The issue here is, her figure might be very beautiful but it is just not suitable to give me or any other woman on the other side of a size 20 an idea of how this dress might look on us.

I Would Have Bought It In A Heartbeat

PicMonkey Collage

I absolutely love how the piece looks on Rebel it really hugs her “lady lumps” in all the right places. Based on her picture, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Although now I can’t justify it any more, as I have already bought 3 sequins dresses in the meantime, and there are only so many Christmas and New Years Eve parties you can go to…

Why doesn’t the Plus-Size Industry Fix This?

Weirdly enough the plus size industry does not appear to try to fix this by using larger models but rather by padding the skinny models with fat suits, erm what?

 Two Models A Possible Solution?

What I would love to see in the plus size industry is what the lovely little independent label Silly Old Sea Dog is doing for some of it’s products, it is very simple and will not cost too much more: Simply using two models.

PicMonkey Collage3

Silly Old Sea Dog Cartoon Dress 50s Style – £95 (Handmade)

If retailers are affraid we might not click on the item if we don’t see on a skinny woman then this might be the solution. And it gives the retailers a soft way to test the use of larger models without increasing risk or costs by too much.

Thinking about how much overhead goes into a piece of clothing simply a second model for the plus-size items, giving us ladies on both sides of the spectrum a better idea how it might look on us, is not going to add that much of a cost to it. I am sure it would be at least something that would be worth trialing for the big retailers. Why it has not been done yet I really don’t know

Breaking News: Victory Over The Victory Rolls

My First Victory Rolls

I am a huge fan of vintage fashion and hair, particularly of the pin-up and 50s flavour of vintage. I have seen so many amazing pictures and videos of vintage style bloggers showing off victory rolls off in all shapes and forms and unfortunately as often have I tried to recreate this kind of look  I failed miserably, up till now…

Conquered But Not Yet Mastered

This post unfortunately is neither a tutorial nor a detailed hair look post but it marks an important moment in my personal make-up and hair career. I conquered the victory roll.

This weekend, on the night of our office Christmas do I conquered the coveted vintage roll finally for the very first time!

You can bet that over the next weeks I will make a few more tries not to only conquer but master the victory roll (at least to a point where I succeed more often than I fail) and then I will look into sharing my new learned “wisdom”  in how to achieve victory rolls as a complete hair dummy in a tutorial post or maybe even a youtube video.

My Little Helpers

One thing that I can tell you though already though, is that my new roller set and my forming water that I brought back from Germany were an integral part of me achieving this hair style.

BaByliss 30 Piece Heated Ceramic Roller SetBaByliss 30 Piece Heated Ceramic Roller Set: Image 11

I have my new Babyliss set of heated rollers now for I only a few weeks now but it is already much loved. With it’s 30 rollers it finally is enough for my amount of hair and I like the final result due to the different roller sizes. I guess it gives it a more lively look due to the different curl sizes.

Balea Forming Water

I absolutely love the forming water from Balea. So far I have unfortunately not found anything comparable in the UK so I always bring it back from Germany when I am visiting. This forming water, when sprayed wet hair & blow dryed it gives great volume and when sprayed on before curling, they help to form the curl but also very much to make them last the whole night and longer

Now On To Conquer Heidi Rolls?

The next steps, next to mastering this hairstyle will by to try some different combinations ans placing of vicory rolls as well as seeing if I can maybe attempt a heidi roll. I would also love to achieve a Dita Van Teese Curl Set, but I will have to try one step after the other.

Do you have any tips for easy vintage hair, ready for a beginner or do you maybe yourself have a hairstyle you would love to master?

Lots of Love
