Next Lingerie Event & Bra Fitting Experience

The Next Summer Lingerie Blogger Event

lingerie eventOn the 17th of June Next launched their new Summer Lingerie range and hosted a bloggers event for the kick off of the range but even more important to  demonstrate their bra fitting service and last but not least if not to say best of all to announce their new summer DD+ range that will now include bras going up to a size 40H.

While their “normal” range was available from the 17th onwards, the DD+ Range will only physically hit the shelves of the Arndale Center in mid July, it is already available online, so you can have a browse online now and then check it out in store later this month.

As it seems if you want to get your hands on the 40+ sizes you will be forced to set foot in a next store as most larger sizes appear to have sold out online, most likely due to them only hitting the store shelves later as mentioned above.

The Summer Lingerie Range &  The DD+ Range

The base range comes in 5 different base bra types which you can see below. All bras are available in a wide range of colours, including some stunning ombre versions.

To be honest the only real difference between the base range and the DD+ range are some little design updates in order to better support a larger busts (i.e. wider straps etc.). They state on their website:

Pure femininity in our new DD+ lingerie, desinged and tailor made especially for the fuller bust – wider straps, more support and softer linings for ultimate comfort and fit. All our key styles and shapes are available from everyday t-shirt bras to elegant premium lace in all your favourite colours.

Next DD+ Overview

However I cannot verify this because as mentioned above I have only seen pictures of the DD+ range so far. My favourite piece so far though is one of their embroided bras in the Phoebe style .

They Could Have Gone A Little Larger

It is an absolute shame that while they are increasing their range, they do not go a step further and don’t go for an even larger under bust band than 40, but let’s hope that is the next step for autumn. Please Next. I will give you all my money if you just make a bra in size 44E.

80% of Women Wearing The Wrong Bra Size

I am really happy to find another shop selling plus-size  lingerie on the high street. It is really important to be able to try things on, something thinner women take for granted that still isn’t the norm for us plus-size ladies. Clothes can fit very differently on different people, you might have seen in a few videos or blog posts that have recently made the rounds.

A good fit is even more important when it comes to lingerie as a bra should fit you perfectly to give you the right support and lift. Particularly as wearing the wrong bra can have far worse effects than only misshaped boobs, leading to bad back pain and bad posture.

Despite this around 80% of women apparently wear the wrong bra size and I am pretty sure this number is even higher when it comes to us plus size women, due to the rarer availability of lingerie and especially shops where you could try them on and quite often we might be simply too lazy to send something back that we ordered online that does not fit quite right (I am guilty of that!).

The Next Bra Fitting

Next Lingerie Bra Fitting

With this in mind each of us was given a bra fitting on the day by one of their fitting experts and despite them not offering my bra size, it was the best fitting I have had in a long time.  I was measured a few times over the last months, but was never fully happy with what I came out with after.

While other shops very much preach the use of the measuring tape and the theoretical calculation of your size, the ladies of next prefer an individual and visual fitting of bras. In practice that meant they asked me to show them the bra I was wearing at the time and evaluated how the bra was fitting me, the support the cups provided and how my bust was fitting in it as well as the width and fit of the back and shoulder straps.

Bra Shapes - Page 3Bra Shapes - Page 3

Obviously, I Was One Of The 80%

The result in my case was that I was wearing a bra that was too big, both in cup as well as in under-bust size . As mentioned above they were unfortunately not able to verify the bra size they came up with as they were not offering the 44E-F that I would have needed, but they were even so nice to provide me with a list of shops that might offer nice bras in this size. Having tried it out now, I have to admit that they were right and provided the best bra fitting service I had in a while.

Worth Dropping In If Your Size Might Fall Into Their Range

So if you are yourself somewhere in the area of up to a 40H bra size I can only recommend to check out your nearest Next shop, get measured and have a look at their bras. For the rest of us, I very much hope that they will very soon be expanding their range further maybe for the autumn range already? Please Next.

Missguided+ Releases New Pieces & Extra 40% Off Sale

After Missguided had released their plus size range in late autumn last year with a lot of noise, things appear to have changed a bit.

In the meantime there were quietly quite few new pieces added to range. While new pieces are nice we are wondering when a full SS15 plus size collection is going to come.

But let’s have at what happened & the new range:

November 2014: Reveal of the Plus-Size Range

It’s too long ago that all eyes of the plus-size fashion world were directed at Missguided, last November actually, to be precise: That was when Missguided launched their very first plus size range.

November/December 2014: Me & Other Bloggers in Missguided

For a few weeks the plus-size blogosphere was full of lot’s of amazing plus size babes showing off the range. I was no exception, posting about the lace peplum dress and the stunning cobalt blue velvet wrap dress which I wore to the British Plus Size Awards.

January 2015: It has gone quiet

But the fashion world turns fast and the plus-size fashion world is no exception. So over the last months it has become fairly quiet around Missguided, well at least in regards of plus-size.

The fast fashion company has so far only concentrated at the lower end of straight sizes (going up to 14).  Their first plus size range was, by the looks of it, only a test range, if a strong one, with approx 70 lines in sizes only going up to a size 24 so far.

The big question here was if the brand after an enthusiastic launch would forget about their plus-size customer, like so many promising other brands have unfortunatelly done before, leaving the range as an token range for the fatties to avoid being called fat shaming.

February 2015: New Pieces – Without A Lot Of Noise

Fortunately this does not appear to be the case. Well, at least there are a few positive indicators that this time it might be different.

Without making a lot of noise abut it they appear to have been working quietly on a few updates to their best pieces as well as some completely new pieces.

Screenshot from 2015-02-25 03:05:22

Unfortunately there is no complete new range or big overarching new style at the moment, but one thing I do have to credit Missguided for is that after running only a very few months, they have looked at demand and, like a good fast fashion retailer does, not only restocked as it was selling out but also put a little bit of effort in and improved/updated a few lines by adding new colour options

Let’s Have A Look At The Range Update

Renewals/Updates

Some of the pieces they have renewed were the wrap dresses that were very popular after the launch and quickly sold out in many colours.

The wrap dresses have not only been repeated in the original colours that had sold out they are now also available in for example khaki and grey.

Skirts

And also the leopard print skirt that I own and love has been renewed and it is along with some other skirts  now available in the trend colour camel as well as a black PU panel version.

 New Dresses

There are some lovely new midi dresses. The below dress on the left in the grid has been added in black and in the green and also some other completely new dresses.

Tie Waist Skirt

Another new addition to the collection is the tie waist skirt which is expected to be a big trend this spring. A skirt I could not resist buying already and that will be on my blog soon in an #OOTD.

This skirt is basically a skirt that pretending to have a shirt slung around the hips. Sounds a bit weird when trying to describe it,  but I like the look.

tie waist Collage2

Trends At The Same Time For Fatties AND Normalos

The tie waist skirt is one of the examples where Missguided is really really promising for the future. I am not necessarily talking abut the style itself but the timing of the delivery of the style. If you have a look around through the sizes, tie waist appears to be one of their big upcoming trends that they have heavily bought into across their straight sizes.

Unlike so many other retailers out there, Missguided is not waiting till at least next season to finally deliver a trend in a  plus-size version, but is delivering it at the same time for us larger ladies as wekk as in straight sizes. Although admittedly they deliver this trend only in one style for 18+ while in almost uncountable styles for straight sizes, but it is a start.

Where is the SS15 range?

After having been unsure, when first launching the range in November, of how it would resonate with us fatties, they should now have a much better idea of who their plus-size customers are and what we like.

This does make me wonder even more why it is taking Missguided so long to get their Spring/Summer range out. With it being end of February they might be a bit late to the market. Although I am still holding up big hopes for a banging collection

Extra 40% Off Sale While We Are Waiting

While you are browsing through the new items don’t forget to have a quick look at the sale items, as for a very limited time you will be able to get 40% all sale items using the code EXTRA40.

Simply Be Spring/Summer 2015

A while back I was lucky enough to attend the Simply Be Spring/Summer Preview. This was an absolutely amazing event in an impressive London penthouse, involving some lovely wine, yummy canapés, a stunning new Spring & Summer collection and lots of lovely plus size blogger babes.

Simply Be SS15 UK Plus Size Blogger Event

If you follow my Instagram you will have most likely been able to follow the events on this day as it happened and will already have gotten a glimpse into the new Simply Be collection, if not, even the more of a reason to follow me on Instagram.

Simply Be’s have by now even added a video of this preview day on their youtube channel so that you can get a first hand impression of the event in moving pictures if you pay enough attention you can even glimpse of me wearing one of my favourite Missguided dresses in this video.

 My Favourite Trends & Pieces

While then these styles were merely a preview, these lovely pieces are now, bit by bit, making their way into the Simply Be online shop. A good occasion to give you  a bit of  a closer look at the collection and my favourites.

While I am not really a fan of this years florals I am very much in love with the the clean bright colours in an almost candy colour range in combination with clean strong cuts as well as the simple monochrome styles with a hint of 60s. And lastly not to forget I like the denim. For some reason it has recently not been easy to find a nice plus size denim jacket.

Great Swimwear 2015

The one thing though that absolutely stood out to me is the Swimwear. This year simply be have really outdone themselves with their swimwear. Great colour combined with vintage lines.

Colour Block Bikini
Polka Dot Bikini

Mesh Swimsuit

What is great about these swimsuits, at least some, is that Simply Be also thought of us busty ladies when designing them. Wearing a G-Cup I am simply not able to wear a “normal” swimsuit without proper cups and/or under-wires. My mom always called it “pancakes” what swimsuits without proper cups would do to a large bust. No desirable shape… The black mesh swimsuit is one of those good examples, as it contains fixed foam cups supporting and keeping the bust in shape.

My absolute favourite piece is the monochrome one piece below which will instantly transform you into a plus size bond girl.

But also the Bikinis are not to be scoffed at.  After I made a great step of confidence and bought my very first Bikini last year (read more about this here) I might be buying Bikini number 3 and 4 this year…

Skinny Models For Plus-Size – Why?

I have voiced in the past numerous times that I have absolutely no idea why the Plus-Size Industry keeps using models hardly ever larger than a size 12 and if we are lucky maybe a 14 and today this been highlighted once again.

Rebel Wilson In A Stunning Sequins Dress

Asos Curve shared yesterday on their Facebook page this lovely picture of Rebel Wilson in an absolutely stunning sequins dress out of their collection that she wore yesterday for a film premiere.

How Could I Overlook this?

I absolutely love this dress and was wondering how I could have overlooked this stunner when I was on the look out for a sequins dress for the Christmas season. However, clicking through to the website I realise why.

But see yourself:

sequin

ASOS CURVE Exclusive V-Neck Dress With Sequin Skirt – £35

Nothing against the model, she is a very beautiful girl and even the poses are not even the problem. The issue here is, her figure might be very beautiful but it is just not suitable to give me or any other woman on the other side of a size 20 an idea of how this dress might look on us.

I Would Have Bought It In A Heartbeat

PicMonkey Collage

I absolutely love how the piece looks on Rebel it really hugs her “lady lumps” in all the right places. Based on her picture, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Although now I can’t justify it any more, as I have already bought 3 sequins dresses in the meantime, and there are only so many Christmas and New Years Eve parties you can go to…

Why doesn’t the Plus-Size Industry Fix This?

Weirdly enough the plus size industry does not appear to try to fix this by using larger models but rather by padding the skinny models with fat suits, erm what?

 Two Models A Possible Solution?

What I would love to see in the plus size industry is what the lovely little independent label Silly Old Sea Dog is doing for some of it’s products, it is very simple and will not cost too much more: Simply using two models.

Silly Old Sea Dog Cartoon Dress 50s Style – £95 (Handmade)

If retailers are affraid we might not click on the item if we don’t see on a skinny woman then this might be the solution. And it gives the retailers a soft way to test the use of larger models without increasing risk or costs by too much.

Thinking about how much overhead goes into a piece of clothing simply a second model for the plus-size items, giving us ladies on both sides of the spectrum a better idea how it might look on us, is not going to add that much of a cost to it. I am sure it would be at least something that would be worth trialing for the big retailers. Why it has not been done yet I really don’t know

Breaking News: Victory Over The Victory Rolls

My First Victory Rolls

I am a huge fan of vintage fashion and hair, particularly of the pin-up and 50s flavour of vintage. I have seen so many amazing pictures and videos of vintage style bloggers showing off victory rolls off in all shapes and forms and unfortunately as often have I tried to recreate this kind of look  I failed miserably, up till now…

Conquered But Not Yet Mastered

This post unfortunately is neither a tutorial nor a detailed hair look post but it marks an important moment in my personal make-up and hair career. I conquered the victory roll.

This weekend, on the night of our office Christmas do I conquered the coveted vintage roll finally for the very first time!

You can bet that over the next weeks I will make a few more tries not to only conquer but master the victory roll (at least to a point where I succeed more often than I fail) and then I will look into sharing my new learned “wisdom”  in how to achieve victory rolls as a complete hair dummy in a tutorial post or maybe even a youtube video.

My Little Helpers

One thing that I can tell you though already though, is that my new roller set and my forming water that I brought back from Germany were an integral part of me achieving this hair style.

BaByliss 30 Piece Heated Ceramic Roller SetBaByliss 30 Piece Heated Ceramic Roller Set: Image 11

I have my new Babyliss set of heated rollers now for I only a few weeks now but it is already much loved. With it’s 30 rollers it finally is enough for my amount of hair and I like the final result due to the different roller sizes. I guess it gives it a more lively look due to the different curl sizes.

Balea Forming Water

I absolutely love the forming water from Balea. So far I have unfortunately not found anything comparable in the UK so I always bring it back from Germany when I am visiting. This forming water, when sprayed wet hair & blow dryed it gives great volume and when sprayed on before curling, they help to form the curl but also very much to make them last the whole night and longer

Now On To Conquer Heidi Rolls?

The next steps, next to mastering this hairstyle will by to try some different combinations ans placing of vicory rolls as well as seeing if I can maybe attempt a heidi roll. I would also love to achieve a Dita Van Teese Curl Set, but I will have to try one step after the other.

Do you have any tips for easy vintage hair, ready for a beginner or do you maybe yourself have a hairstyle you would love to master?

Missguided+ On A Girl In Size 24

The Missguided Lace Peplum Dress

I am more than excited that I was provided with a lovely peplum dress out of the new Missguided+ Plus-Size range that only launched yesterday, which I will be wearing to the Simply Be Spring /Summer Collection 2015 preview tonight. Check out the hashtag #SimplyBeSS15 if you want to watch live what will be happening.

Missguided Plus Size Lace Peplum Dress Ecom Picture

I am very much looking forward to wearing this Missguided+ beauty. The dress comes in a lace look but also in a leopard print. This might not be as extensive as a usual review but I just wanted to give you a first idea how this dress looks on a girl that is on the larger side of curvy, namely a size 24-26.

True To Size – Slightly Larger

The dress feels lovely and appears to be true to size. If anything, it is a bit on the larger side, as it fits me well while I am usually somewhere between a size 24-26 with a relatively large bust. Although I would say despite that, there is no need to size down.

More “Missguided On A Size 24”-Pictures To Come

I will be posting quite a few of these looks. So keep checking back here on the blog or make sure to follow me on Instagram. Obviously I won’t be modelling the whole 70 pieces, Unfortunately I can’t quite afford that, but I am sure I there will be quite a few interesting pieces and that there will enough to give you a good idea :). Let me know which pieces you would like to see.

Some of the things of which I can tell you that you will definitely be able to see them here soon are: the leopard print midi skirt and the beautiful cobalt blue wrap dress, in fact I  will be wearing the latter one to the British Plus Size Awards.

Complaints About Sizing Range A Little Unfair

I have seen quite a few people complaining about the sizing range ending at a size 24. I personally hope as well that the sizing range that I hope will be extended in future. However, complaining about the sizing range is unfair.

You do have to think about this from a business point of view. Missguided is a retailer that so far has only catered for women up to a size 14 (and the occasional 16). Immediately moving from this to a range which is upwardly open would be an incredibly risky move. As there is no guarantee as to how the collection performs.

Therefore this collection should be seen as a first entry into the plus-size business. Missguided are basically dipping their toe into the plus-size market. Trying to work out what works for them and what does not. I am sure there will be one or the other amazing piece and some great surprises in the future.

What Do You Think?

There are so many things I would love to her from you about. What you think about the dress and the range in general? Which of the items would you like to see on the blog?

Lots of love
