#Workout – Plus-Size Sportswear OOTD

I have always struggled to find good plus-size sportswear. I only new of very few places to look and what was available was either far too expensive or boring and unshapely. SimplyBe and their sportswear section was pretty much the only place where I was able to find a few things.

As I have recently started to try working on a more active life I started to keep my eyes more open if I can not find here or there a few unexpected gems and in fact I came across one of those gems while going shopping for food.

Asda – Plus-Size Up To A Size 24

I keep forgetting that Asda’s George  does do plus-size clothes, at least up to a size 24.  So when I was recently changing up my shopping routine I came across this pink hashtag themed shirt. I real gem to find.

Althoug at the moment they unfortunately not  have any sportswear. At the moment they only have swimwear although keeping the plus-size sections to swimsuits, not offering any bikinis. I guess think though it will definately worth keeping an eye out as I am sure they will have some nice gym wear here and there.

The trousers are from another one of my recent discoveries for great plus-size exercise clothes, H&M Sportswear. The trousers I wear in the picture are unfortunately sold out by now but they do have some other great things still in their offering at the moment

Although I still have to find the right size for me. I am somewhere between a size 24 and a size 26.  I have multiple versions of these trousers in multiple sizes as I really like them. H&M goes up to a size 3xl, I usually wear a size 2xl in other clothes but for these trousers 2xl appears a little small and 3xl appears a little wide, but unfortunately I do have the issue with the slowly sliding sports trousers with most of them, either due to them being too small.  I hope that with maybe toning up a little bit or maybe by losing a little weight that the 2xl will end up to fit even better over time.

What Do You Think?

Do also have the same problem of the sliding sports trousers when you run or exercise in general? Have you found the solution or perfect  trousers to solve the problem?
Where do you buy your sportswear or now of any other places that are hidden gems for plus size sports-wear?

What You Should Not Wear… – Fashion Rules

Are you as tired as me of stupid rules about what we are allowed to wear or not? We all have come across rules or even lists of what we apparently should and should not wear. These rules can present themselves in so many different ways:

  1. “Passed Down Wisdom”: that has been passed down from woman to woman like I have been told so many times, that I should not wear stripes or patterns or that I should avoid short skirts, bodycon dresses or generally tight tops.
  2. School’s Dres Codes: Weird rules imposed by schools about what girls (and also boys) are allowed to wear, most of the time claiming the girls would be too much of a distraction to the boys in their leggings or skirts revealing irresistible kneecaps. This goes to so crazy lengths that girls have been sent home from school for wearing leggings. (1, 2, 3)
  3. Social media comments: Maybe you came across the beautiful picture of “What Laura Loves”  in a stunning jumpsuit on the Simply Be Facebook Page which was taken apart by mean commenters claiming she should not wear a jumpsuit as it was unflattering
  4. The Press: one of the most recent examples was the Oprah magazine stating that you should only wear a crop top if(AND ONLY IF as they repeat) you have a flat stomach… I already had my rant about this specific article here

Oprah, Crfop Tops Only For Flat Stomach

Simply be has recently put together an eye-opening list of all the confusing rules they came across…

Completely Arbitrary Or Even Plain False

These rules are completely arbitrary and even the assumptions they are based on are sometimes even plain false.  The myth for example that horizontal stripes make you bigger has been debunked in multiple studies. A 2008 study even found that horizontal stripes make you appear 6% thinner than in vertical stripes. Who decided what is flattering?

What Is So Wrong With Clothes That Don’t Slim Us Down?

Even if horizontal stripes would make you look fatter, what is so inherently wrong with that? Why are we so obsessed with “flattering”? Are we plus-size ladies and body-positivity lovers still so deeply convinced that  being big is such an awful thing that it needs to be concealed, hidden?

If we want to move plus size fashion to the next level we have to learn to step away from our obsession with “flattering” and “slimming”. I personally believe that one thing we have to learn is, that flattering is not a synonym to slimming.

Dress Codes – Often Demeaning For Both Genders

It is obvious that for school or the workplace we should all follow some common sense dress codes. Ultimately you just should not wear you clubbing clothes to your school or workplace.

However, a dress code that go so far as to ban leggings, the visibility of bra straps (tank tops/strappy tops) or similar are demeaning for both genders. These rules assume that boys would be unable of controlling themselves in the view of some ankles or a bra strap shame the girls for completely innocent clothes choices

What Can We Do?

When thinking about what we can do about those stupid rules and misconceptions there is one simple answer.  Break the rules, break them at every occasion you get, and be visible doing it. That way we can break down the expectations of us trying to stay invisible and to hide our rolls and extra pounds at all costs. Show your glorious body in whatever you like to wear!

Simply Be Project – Break The Rules

So when Simply Be shared with me their asked me if I wanted to participate in their recent project aiming to break those rules down following  their recent blog post about those rules, I was immediately in. They were so nice to supply me with some pieces from their line to go and break some rules. A project right after my liking.

Breaking the rules!

So here is a selection of outfits breaking all the rules I could think of featuring past outfits and the lovely dresses that i was supplied by Simply Be

Xandres Xline at The House Of Fraser

I always love hearing about new plus size brands. So I was quite exited when the House Of Fraser contacted me with the great news that they will be stocking Xandres Xline.

Xandres Xline – A Plus Size Line Of A Beligian Design House

Xandres Xline is the plus size line of the belgian brand Xandres which is admittedly not one of the cheapest lables available but it does offer some interesting new pieces as their style is based on an overall classic style interspersed with some more subtle and some more statement trends but always remains timeless.

Obviously I am not a fan of every single piece and while some pieces are clearly targeted at a market a little older than myself they do seem to have managed to overall achieve a good balance between classic and fashion.

Here are some of my favourite pieces:

Xandres XLine Plus Size Range

Road Testing Xandres Xline with the House of Fraser

Amazingly the House Of Fraser offered me the chance to road test one of the pieces.  I was looking out for a piece that would allow me to benefit from the quality that I hoped for as well as the timelessness of the line and so I was looking for a piece that could work with many other outfits rather than one of their beautiful statement pieces. And in my case the best choice appeared to be a cardigan:

This is the beauty I chose:

Xandres

Yay or Nay?

The cardigan did not disappoint. The quality is amazing and I really love the colour.

The image does not any wear near live up to reality. The cardigan is a beautiful pastel turquois that is interwoven with some with some subtle silver shimmer. It goes wonderfully with my current obsession of blue hues and nude blush tones.

The quality of the piece also lives up to my from the price already rather high expectations. The downside of the quality though is that you will have to live with the little mither of handwashing it but the positive side is that it if you treat it will should give you many years of wearing a beautiful cardigan, that for once should not lose it’s shape or shine.

The Final Verdict?

Would I buy it myself? I have to admit…  Maybe not, with an original price of £109 it would simply lie out of my price range. Out of budget constraints I personally rather look to cheap and cheerful ranges at the moment.

Would I have invested the money into this piece though for this time, I do believe Iwould not  have been disappointed – I do believe you would get your money’s worth in quality and length of wear out of it – and at the moment the piece is also reduced to £54.90 and so are many of the other Xandres Xline pieces at the HoF at the moment. So if you like it, now is the the time to snap it up.

The literal bottom line is: If you  can afford it and like timeless pieces then I do believe Xandres Xline is a worthy Plus-Size designer brand to invest  in.

Jewellery, Delicious Italian Food & An Armed Robbery

An Invitation by Victoria Highfeld

I  recently attended an event at Victoria Highfield, a jeweler in Didsbury. On this evening they  reminded me that I should probably have my family heirlooms enlarged to breathe some new life into them and opened my eyes to the world of jewelery beyond cheapo fashion jewelery .  (read the event post here).

ChloBo

This tie Victoria Highfield incited me to introduce me to the world of ChloBo followed by a lovely dinner. I had never heard of of ChloBo before, so I did a little research before the day.

According to what I found online the jewelry brand produces handmade pieces inspired by the island of Bali and the story of the company, as you can read it on their facebook page, just sounds adorable:

chlobo frontpage

When ChloBo founder Chloe Moss turned 21 she packed her bags and embarked on a journey around the globe looking for creative inspiration […] eventually she ended up on the beautiful island of Bali.

Discovering the island’s beautiful soul, the stunning craftsmanship and the amazing silver, Chloe was utterly inspired and here marked the birth of ChloBo.

Upon returning to her home in the UK, Chloe transformed her spare bedroom into her studio. [..]

The Bali inspiration gives this brand a bit of a sophisticated hobo chic. I particularly like the the concept of stacking and combining the pieces with each piece being reasonably affordable. If you want to go for the stacked bracelet look though like in the image below, you will fairly quickly reach a spend in the hundreds.

With the cheapest pieces starting at around £45 though there definitely is not too much I can complain.  ChloBo seems to offer something for every wallet, if padded or not – and there is no need to start at a big stacked bracelet collection right away. I can imagine that  becoming a long term collection, buying each piece to mark a day or memory, similar to the Pandora bracelet charms- and the pieces do appear like they would last.

But Then There Was An Armed Robbery

I was really looking forward to this day however the event  unfortunately had to be cancelled as there was unfortunately an armed robbery on the day of the event at one of their branches. The robbers apparently did not use guns, but whatever the weapons were, this does not make it less frightening

My thoughts are with the staff that had to go through this traumatizing experience. I hope that nobody got hurt and that there wasn’t too much physical damage to the store.

Stil A Lovely Evening At Gusto

I do absolutely understand why they had to cancel the event. While we wait to hear to when the event might get rescheduled Victoria Highfield still was so nice to invite us to a lovely Italian meal at Gusto, an absolutely amazing Italian restaurant. And not only that, they also had a lovely little goody bag for me.

Oh So Delicious Food

I promise I won’t turn this post into a restaurant review (although that might actually come later) but the food was absolutely amazing.

I had been wanting to go out for a nice steak for ages and so I chose the thin char-grilled steak which came with Parmesan shavings and rocket, which was absolutely delicious. And not only that, in the uk it seems to be quite difficult to get your steak actually served medium even when you ask for it specifically, despite how thin this lovely steak was cooked to perfection. For dessert I finally got the chance to test sweet cannelloni which had been wanting to try for ages.

Gusto Chorlton Sweet Canneloni

The More Than Lovely Goody Bag

Victoria Highfield made not only sure that I still would have a good evening but also a goody bag was awaiting me in the restaurant. I was quite excited about what I would find inside.

I did not expect to receive an actual piece from the collection, but that was exactly what it was, a beautiful bracelet with cross charm.

It is not only beautiful but also feels great and really meets the expectation I had from the website –  a great quality piece to last, won’t be “so last season” next year thanks to it’s classic design… – bottom line. I like ChloBo.

ChloBo Cross Bracelet

It does fit okish, while you can notice it is not made specifically for plus size wearers. For pieces like this that range between £45 and £250 depending on bracelet I would wish that it was possible to add an extra bead or two for perfect wear if needed. However if you are not planning to wear it 24/7 it is perfectly comfortable on my rather larger than average plus-size wrists over the course of an evening.

Thanks A Lot For A Lovely Evening

Thanks Victoria Highfield. I hope everyone who had to go through the trauma of the robbery has recovered well and despite the event not happening, you made me very happy this evening. 😉

Lots of love

Big Love For Purple Hair – Bleach London

Bleach London Bruised Violet & Out Of The Blue, La Riche Directions Violet & Atlantic Blue

Hello Internet, I have changed my hair colour again. This time it is purple & I am very much in love with it.

Many, Many Colours

Although it is probably not much of a surprise, anybody who may follow me knows that I do have a thing for changing my hair colours often. . Not to forget that I do have a thing for colours that are not the most natural. If you don’t yet feel free to have a browse through my past posts and I am sure you will notice that over the last few months I have collected quite a wide range of different colours.

Hair Collage2

Dyeing Tips Series

I am planning to write a bit more about this soon, giving you the best tips I have, from the bleaching to the dying and how you can same money, as there seems to be quite a bit of interest for this topic, while this is more of just a little colour update.

What This Purple Is Made Of

Bleach London Bruised Violet & Out Of The Blue, La Riche Directions Violet & Atlantic BluePurple Hair - Portrait 1If you wonder where to get this purple, it does not come out of any bottle,as it is like almost all my hair colours  self mixed from multiple dyes. This colour was mixed from a large portion of Conditioner, Bruised Violet, with a largish portion of Out Of The Blue with a dash of Directions Lilac and Atlantic Blue.

I was going for something more blue but I am more than happy with the result. I actually prefer this over the colour I was going for. The very best thing of this colour is actually that it goes perfect with my favourite MAC Lipstick – Up The Amp Amplified.

Bleach London Bruised Violet & Out Of The Blue, La Riche Directions Violet & Atlantic Blue - Favourite MAC Lipstick Up The Amp Amplified

Exciting

Every time I dye my hair with a mix it is quite exciting to wait to find out how the colour is turning out, as the colour in the bowl never quite looks like the colour on your hair, but with experience you do get a good feel for it. The other advantage is that this colour is not permanent and always can be dyed over soon… 😉

Bleach London Bruised Violet & Out Of The Blue, La Riche Directions Violet & Atlantic Blue

Using Up My Bleach London Stash

For this dying cycle I wanted to use some of my Bleach London Dyes  because I was planning to move over  to La Riche Directions. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing which Bleach London, they are good dyes and I have made good experiences with them, I just personally prefered Directions and in particular their range of colours, but after how this colour has turned out I might stick withBruised Violet &  Out Of The Blue For A While.

Unfortunately you can’t just pick Directions up at Boots, like you can with Bleach London, you will need to get them online . But this is still simple enough as Amazon does offer the full range, many even over their prime service through which you get unlimited free next day delivery: here 30 days free prime – just don’t forget to cancel, if you do not want to sign up for a year.

A Few Tips

While I want to save how-to’s for a later post there are a I essential tips I would like to give you, just in case you are considering to do something similar to your hair.

  • It is always best to leave the bleaching to a professional, if you decide to do it yourself, educate yourself well about the process and substances before you do it.
  • Regarding the actual colour start simple and search online for example images of how it has turned out on the hair of others.
  • Maybe abstain from mixing for now, consider to go for the colour out of the box.
  • You can control the strength of the colour by how much conditioner you mix in.
  • You can always increase the experimenting with experience.

I had not many things go wrong, but it has happened to me. Reduce the chance of that happening to you, And as a last tip, that is something you do not want to have happen to you without some backup colour to dye.

What Do You Think?

Would you go for an unnatural colour? What colour would it be? And what colour would you like to see me wear?

Lots Of Love
