Plus Size Babes Rocking Autumn 2016 Trends – With Bustle

Recently Bustle shared a selection of 35 amazing plus-size women proving that the latest trends are not just for straight sizes but also can be rocked by larger women. I am more than flattered to say that  I happend to be one of those women selected by Bustle. This is just a great compliment to be mentioned amongst so many amazing plus-size bloggers and body positivity influencers.

These 34 influencers (plus me) share their favourite trend of the season with you and why they love these trend. If you were wondering what exactly this season’s trends are, check out this gallery.

I always love hearing more about more why and how people choose the styles they do, especially when it is from influencers like those featured here.

Reasons to choose a style can be as banal as just the love of a colour or it can be something as dear to ourselves as challenging yourself to a style that scares you, challenging yourself and your own confidence.

My Autumn OOTD & Why I Love It

The autumn style that I went for, is the stunning dress out of the Holly Hagan range by Want That Trend that I recently bought at the Curve Fashion Festival. Next to the beautiful maxi style the dress is sparkling with beautiful sparkly metal detailing. And if you know me I love metallics, glitter & sparkles in any way, shape or form.

The reason why I love metallics and metallic detailing is that you can still make them work for most occasions while sequins can easily look over the top. With metallics being one of the main trends this autumn  I will indulge this season in the metal detail trend as much as I can.

I hid myself for so long only wearing subdued colours and baggy clothes because of low self-esteem and thinking that is what I had to do being fat. This is why I now enjoy wearing some glitter even more. Ultimately I have a lot of catching  up to do on bold colours, patterns & especially sparkles.

The Curve Fashion Fest 2016 – Runways, Babes & Plus Size Fashion

For most of this year’s I was thinking this year I would not be able to make it to this year’s Curve Fashion Festival. A real shame as I really loved the event last year. There is just nothing better than a day full of fabulous fashion and being surrounded by lots of amazing like-minded fat babes. Luckily Simply Be swooped in as my saviours from missing out and invited me as one of their bloggers to the event and not only that they even went to the effort to send me a little surprise care package for the event.

Fat Fashion Heaven

I and trains just do not get along. So after missing the first train I was finally on my way and tought some lovely ladies who were part of a hen party the secret of putting on makeup on the train which I acquired over many years of commuting to school. Ultimately it is all about the timing and avoiding contact with the back of the seat or any other surfaces – but I guess this is a topic for a whole of a another post. The hen party girls at least suggested I should start a youtube series about this. Who knows, I might ;).

Finally in Liverpool, I immediately dove into the action and like always there was so much to soak in. Tons of amazing brand stands, one fashion show after the other and lots of great talks and expert panels, not to forget so many amazing blogger ladies.

Like always I was busy soaking all this up that I turn into to worst blogger and forget to take pictures of everything. In future I think I have wear some sort of alarm or pay somebody to keep pinching me if I forget to take pictures for too long.

OOTD

ebay-photo-booth

While I am usually a fan for colourful outfits I decided to stick to black for today but not less daring. I felt like it was time to give my Asos crop top another outing which I first wore in this post along with my Missguided skater skirt and yours clothing kimono. All pieces are old season but nonetheless I don’t think that I looked out of date.

Knowing events like this, opting for layers is usually the best option. You never know if you are going to end up in a boiling or freezing exhibition hall. It was definitely a good decision to opt for such a light base outfit. Except when I was travelling, there was absolutely no need for the leggings, cardigan or jeans jacket that I had on me. In fact I wished I would have had a fan on me.

There are times when I do still feel a little self-conscious in  a crop top and keep trying to adjust it. I do love this outfit thhoughI just wished I would have been at least a tiny bit more tanned though.

Runway Shows

Where I did not forget to get my camera out were those fantastic runway shows. Not only were they showing off an amazing range of bodies but also a great range of ages from a size 16 to 32 from teenager to stunning grey hair all was represented and all looked absolutely stunning. London  New York,  Milan & Paris Fashion Week take note and learn – this is how you do diversity.

Here are some of the great pieces and stunning models that were on show on the day.

Want That Trend

Out of all the Runway Shows my favourite show & line was the new plus size range by Holly Hagan, in cooperation with Want That Trend. While all the other designers have done an amazing job, I believe that this range has taken it just one step further. It is an unapologetic range that picks up all the current autumn trends in the most flattering and sexy way. But not only that, it is not a separate plus size collection – just a collection. Their range comes in a size 8-32 and makes no difference between straight and plus size in neither style, cut nor price. Well done!

And here we come to the best bit where I can brag just a “little” . Holly actually ended up announcing the launch of the collection featuring a picture of little old me posing next to her in same dress she was wearing.

It was really great to meet so many amazing bloggers and plus-size ladies. Being surrounded by so many like-minded & strong women (and men) is undoubtedly the best apecst of events like this. This is not only a great inspiration & encouragement it is also a great boost for the self esteem not to forget a great chance to catch up with and make new friends and acquaintances you meet far too rarely.

A great opportunity to do just that and to round this great day off I joined some lovely ladies including Lolly, Amber, Sam, Freckles, & Nikee eating far too much at Reds True Barbecue in Liverpool. If you love some ribs, smoked meat or a good barbecue sauce this is definitely the place to be. I have to warn you though, come hungry and prepared to take a doggy bag home with you. The portions are as massive as they are yummy.

Have you been recently to any plus size events or are you planning to go to any events? Which event is your favourite that you cant wait for or love looking back to?

Get Glammed Up With BeGlam – App Launch Event

be glam - launch event collage

Everybody loves a little glam

If you are like me you will love to get proper glammed up once in a while when having a night out with the girls, going to any other sort of special event or sometimes simply just because. The only thing that does feel even better than glamming yourself up is getting glammed up – and there is a new kid on the blog when it comes to booking experts.

BeGlam - Mirror Polaroid

A Little Glam Can Go A Long Way For Body Positivity & Self Love

Getting glammed up really can do so much more than just getting you ready for a special event or a night out. Practising some self-love & self-care by trying out some new amazing makeup looks or getting your “hair did” can do soo much for your self-esteem and make you feel soo good about yourself and even your body.

This does make me think of “Cheap Thrills” by Sia.  It does express in a great way how treating yourself to a little makeover (and hitting the dance floor with your loved ones) can make you feel a million dollars.

Everybody needs a little glam once in a while. At least this is how I feel.

So What Is BeGlam & What Has It To Do With Getting Glammed Up?

Like I said earlier, the only thing that feels even better than glamming yourself up is getting glammed up with some professional help, making  you look your best and pampering yourself a bit – and this where BeGlam comes in.

BeGlam allows you to easily browse and book your local makeup artists and hair stylists. The great thing about freelance MUAs and stylists is that they will come to you rather than you having to go to their studio or salon, so this is perfect for a little pamper party at home or especially if you are looking for a somebody to do your wedding makeup and hair for you and your bridesmaids.

You can book via the website or the iPhone/iPad app. I believe an Android versions in planned and will follow soon. If you are interested, keep an eye on my Facebook page, I will let you know as soon as BeGlam will hit the Google Play Store.

Bubbly, Celebs & Makeovers At The Release Party

The release party  at the Artisan was good fun: Celebrity guests (Housewives of Cheshire), makeovers, tasty food and bubbly.

Black Bridesmaid Dresses
Oh and yes, I mentioned celebrities. Who they were. I was told they were part of the cast of The Real Housewives of Cheshire. I have to admit I would have not recognised them or had the faintest idea who they were wasn’t I told as I do not really watch that sort of show,  but once it was pointed out to me who they were it was actually interesting and nice to meet them.
I guess while this would have been an exciting point for many, it was a little lost on me.

However, celebs or not the event was great, you simply can’t beat the combination of bubbly, yummy food and  especially makeovers.

My OOTD

dressDress: ‘Ionia’ Sea Blue Polka Dot Tea Dress –  Lindy Bop
Shoes: Old Season – Deichmann

Here is a quick glimpse of what I wore on the day. The beautiful Lindy Bop  ‘Ionia’ Sea Blue Polka Dot Plus-Size Tea Dress. I do love this dress and I got a lot of compliments for it. I will fairly soon post a full review of this dress to give you a better idea and include some better pictures of what I mean by that.

I want to leave you with one little word of warning though: If you consider buying this dress and your boobs are a bit on the larger side, you will have to be careful with this dress.

What do I mean by that? Take a closer look at my left boob in the picture (a thing I did not expect to say today…) . You should see a seam going across my boob. If this dress would fit as it was intended, this seam should lead around my bust, not across it. In my case the seam luckily ends up bang in the middle of my boob wich makes it kind of look like it was intended this way and I more or less get away with it.

All in all a lovely dress that I very much love but I guess if you are on the more well endowed side you will have to try the dress on and see where this seam ends up on you.

What Makes You Feel Glamorous?

What do you do when you want to feel glamorous? Have you ever booked a freelance make-up artist, mobile hairdresser or maybe a mobile nail artist?

Now go out put your make-up on do your hair and hit the dance floor, hit the dance floor….

Flik & Flak by Swatch – So Many Childhood Memories

Swatch & Flik  Flak – Tied To So Many Childhood Memories

Every once in a while an event comes along that really excites you because it is a brand that is really close to your heart – the opening event of a new Swatch Shop (about which I will post soon as well) that has opened in the Arndale Center was one of these events that I was very excited about even long before the event.

swatch-shop

Growing Up With Swatch and Flik & Flak

Swatch is a brand that is and was really close to my heart – the brand is tied to so many great memories for me. Why? I literally grew up with it. My very first watch was a Swatch Flik Flak and I even learned to read the clock with the help of Swatch  and Flik & Flak.
I  remember being out with my friends, climbing trees, having picnics, building dams and whatever else we have done out and about in the woods and fields, looking down at my watch checking the time when I will have to be home (or more realistic how late I was this time).

Best Natural Looking Hair Replacement Systems and Toupee for Men

So what exactly is or are Flik & Flak?

Flik Flak is Swatch’s collection of cute but practical children’s watches. They are not only built to be very robust they & come with a machine washable textile strap they are also designed to make it easier for the kids to tell the time  & to help children to learn to read the clock in the first place.

How Flik & FlakTeach Kids To Tell The Time

The idea behind the line of watches is to kids to read the clock  via stories and games. Flik & Flak  are two cartoon characters who are siblings and represent the hands of the watch.  Flik (the big brother) tells the minutes, Flak (the little sister) tells the hours.

What time is it? Flick it pretty tall, he can stand up straight and touch the numbers around the watch. He will count the minutes. Flack is his younger sister and she is in charge of the hours. Let get going, it is time to tell the time…

Swatch introduced Flik Flak in 1987. I do remember that the watch also came with one of those cardboard practice watches and I I believe some cute stories. While that was basically it in my day (the early 90s), in 2016 Flik & Flak have gone fully digital, including Youtube videos, online games and all sorts of other content on www.flikflak.com/en/fun-and-games/ .

Great As First Watch

Ultimately these are great watches and I can only recommend them if you are looking for a watch for your child. I believe this collection is a great choice, especially as a very first watch. They are rugged, practical, help your child to learn a new skill and I can only hope that your child will tie as many great memories to their watch as I do should you decide to get one for them.

Always Wanted A (Grown Up) Swatch

Ever since I grew out of wearing a kids watch on my wrist I had wanted to get myself a grown up Swatch. For some reason though that never really materialised, So I am more than happy that Swatch  & the Arndale Center reminded me of their great watches and even more that they have decided to treat to one of their beautiful time pieces – not to forget to evoke me of so many great childhood memories.

I hope you enjoyed this post even though it wasn’t about one of my usual topics (I am not exactly a parent blogger) but I guess stylish watches for kids is also kind of a fashion topic… 😉
I will share more about the actual event my favourite watches and lots of pictures of  the day and all those quirky & colourful watches very soon.

Laser Tag & Geordie Shore

Lisa & Kyle Christie

So Random That I Need To Be Part Of This

Yes, you heard right…. I am not sure if you thought about that headline the same thing I thought, but when I read about this event my exact thoughts were “This sounds so random I just can’t miss this” and it did not disappoint.

While I was initially hoping for Charlotte or Hollie I realised that by not having watched any actual TV for ages I had missed about 4 seasons and had absolutely no idea anymore who was or wasn’t part of Geordie Shore. The celeb guest finally turned out to be Kyle Christie from a very recent season and was a pleasant and nice person.  Unfortunately I have to disappoint you none of us got mortal on this day and there was nobody “tashing on” to spot anywhere. I cannot speak for his behaviour in the season having missed it, but at least in that setting no Geordie Shore craziness or similar antics to detect. Just a normal lad with pretty cool tattoos….
Now I am actually half tempted of catching up on the seasons I missed.

A Game Of Laser Quest

The game took place in Prestons Laster Quest which is also the home of Escape Rooms. It was a good old fashioned  boys against girls battle between Kyle & his friends/entourage he had brought with him and us, a group of bloggers etc and the lovely Steph from Ledigo PR (Manchester’s favourite PR Executive).

Laser Tag Collage

It was good fun despite it being stupidly hot at the time. The last time I had played I had done quite well, but at that time I had found something like a “sniper position”. What I mean by this is a somewhat elevated point that most people can’t see well and don’t go past while you can see most of the battlefield. End-result, this time, was that I was constantly taken out in both matches, with a slightly improved result in the second match. Ultimately I placed both times somewhere in the bottom half. However, whatever the outcome  was,  I had a real great time playing.

A Quick OOTD – This Is A Fashion Blog After All

093

To finish off, let’ bg2s have a look at what I was wearing on the day, this is a plus-size fashion blog after all… 🙂 I did dig out one of my favourite skirts again that I had actually forgotten for a while, my ASOS CURVE Pleated Skater Skirt (not available anymore) that I wore in one of my early OOTDs along with my  Nicky Rockets:  “Do You Want Curves With That” shirt that I bought at Plus North.

Loving Laser Quest

All in all a fun yet sweaty day. I will happily play a game of laser quest whenever I get the opportunity, if I am good at it or not (spoiler I am not) it is fun anyway. So if you want to invite me to a match around Manchester, I am game! (See what I did there).

Did You Have A Match Recently?

Like always I am interested in what you have to say. Are you a fan of Laser Quest or Geordie Shore maybe? Who is your favourite member of the Geordie Shore Gang? What activity would you like to do with one of them if you could choose?

Have a lovely day and lots of love
