New Series: #WorkWearWednesday + Wingz Giveaway

Do We Neglect Workwear?

I love how far the plus size scene has come over the last years. The blogosphere is full of fat babes killing the game in amazing casual wear, evening dresses, vintage wear and even lingerie.

There onle seems to be one aspect of our daily life that we seem to neglect a little bit, and that is work wear, despite this being an important aspect of our ifes. Ultimately work/office wear is what most of us will clad our fat bodies  in for 8-10 hours each Monday to Friday.

Unfortunately till today the understanding of plus-size office outfits still appears to mainly consist of unshapely blouses, blazers or tunics whose only goal appears to be to spare our environment from actually seeing any of our lumps and bumps. When I bought my first set of workwear here in the UK I made a very similar experience.

The Worst Shopping Weekend In A Lifetime

I had just finished my MSc and my mom had come over to celebrate. She had the great idea to go on a shopping trip to find some job interview clothes and a respectabe wardrobe for when  I would find a job – what followed was the shopping weekend  from hell.

At the time I had no idea where to buy work-wear or office clothes let alone that my plus size body could deserve to be dressed in fashionable clothes. The only brick and mortar shop where I knew to find plus size clothes was Asda… George at Asda is a lot better as it sounds, but not really the place for work wear.

The weekend consisted of visiting Asdas, Tescos that did not have any suitable clothes that fitted as I was at the time I was at the end of their size range. Followed by canvassing the Trafford Center here in Manchester that did and I think still does not have a single shop that carries plus sizes (shame on you), we finally found the Evans shop in the Arndale Center.

An Endless Rotation of 6-7 pieces

I came out with 3 tops, 1 pinstripe blazer and 2 pairs of black wide leg trousers which were pretty shapeless and made me look a little like a middle aged bank teller. I wore these few pieces in an endless rotation for at least a whole year without any new additions.

Why no new pieces?

After the shopping trip from hell I definitely did not feel like making another try to go shopping and make that experience again, and from the experience on the first one it I felt like there was anyway not much more work wear than shapeless potato sacks in better fabric. Boy was I wrong, as I know today.

Looking back I wished at the time already known about the plus-size blogosphere and that there is so much great fashion out there. After having more money thanks to working in combination with getting to know the blogosphere I started to learn that there is fashion out there for me, although it took quite a while to I understood that this is also the case when it comes to what I wear to the office.

Introducing #WorkwearWednesday

That’s why I belive it is time start a bi-weekly work & office series. I definitely don’t want any more plus-size babes who are on the threshold to enter the workforce having to go through the same frustrating shopping experience with the same meager outcome – a boring wardrobe on repeat. Starting a new  job is scary enough, so you should fee as comfortable and possible and do it in style.

I teamed up with Wingz

To give it the kick off it deserved I teamed up with the ladies of Wingz fashion, which is one of my favourite little accessories that can easily transform a casual piece into an office worthy fashion statement and I wonder how I have lived without them before.

Lusting Over Jumper Dresses – What I would have bought

Jumper Dresses: A Godsend For The Colder Season

The winter has come and is in full swing. Temperatures have fallen into the single digit range. Time to dress a bit more cosily. While many people change over to trousers I love to wear dresses all year round.

Like a godsend there is a great trend out there right now: Jumper Dresses. Imagine your favourite winter jumper & now turn it into a stylish dress. An absolute win-win, right?

Once Again Forgotten About Plus-Size

Well it really could be, if only the fashion industry would not have completely forgotten about us plus-size girls, once again. I particularly love the dresses available at Esprit, who in my eyes have mastered the jumper dress this season and there are also a ton of amazing styles available at Asos. However, neither of them offers jumper dresses larger than a size 18…

Esprit: Simple Timeless Chic (But Not For Fat Chicks)

I have always loved the classic but simple Esprit chic and very much regretted they never offered any sizes I could fit in. I recently had lost my much loved esprit watch and considered treating myself for Christmas to a new one. And this is where I  came across the jumper dress and ultimately ended up torturing myself: “And this is what you could have worn if you were a size which we, the retailer, arbitrarily deem “normal””

Has This Trend Made It To The Plus-Size Space Yet?

The plus-size industry has become much better in reacting to current trends, but unfortunately this is not true for all trends. Additionally there is still quite a bit of a delay till most trends hit the plus-size community

In this case, like usually I checked the usual suspects if I could find this trend beyond a size 18 somewhere online.Asos, Yours Clothing & Simply Be are generally the first ones in my experience to deliver a trend to the plus size community.

However the jumper dress seems to have been overlooked by all three of them. Particularly disappointing is that Asos has a sizeable range of jumper dresses but appears to have completely forgotten to include their curve range (except for this ONE in my eyes somewhat questionable number).

This Is What I Would Have Bought:

ASOS Cable Knit Dress With Off Shoulder

I am absolutely in love with the combination between the cosy looking jumper style with it lovely cable knit pattern and the bardot neckline. A great compromise between style and warmth. I guess on the colder days it would even look amazing when combining it with a layer underneath to cover the shoulders.

I do believe it would be a true stunner on a plus-size girl, particularly when combined with a belt, some opaque tights or leggings and a lovely pair of ankle boots.

ASOS Cable Knit Dress With Off Shoulder – £45.00
Available up to Size 18

Asos Midi Dress In Rib Knit

This jumper dress is channelling the 90s, the “good part” of the 90s… Yes please.

Esprit Lambs Wool Knitted Dress

This is a lovely simple dress for every day and is absolutely amazing in showing off the female silhouette, sporting an almost skater dress like shape when combined with a belt. If it has that lovely shape on a skinny woman try to imagine it on a more curvy woman (boom!). This really is an awesome every day look for a cold winter day.

Esprit Knit Dress Containing Cashmere

This knit dress is absolutely stunning and was the first one that grabbed my attention. I love the simple sophisticated chic. The embellishment in combination with the simple design is just stunning and I would very much love as much to wear it to the office as I would for a night out.

Blended Wool Fine-Knit Dress

This dress, sporting a jacquard pattern and a low drawstring waist, is an absolutely lovely casual dress, perfect for a pre-christmas family get together, the day on the christmas market or maybe just coffee with friends. Once again this dress would be lovely with a opaque pair of tights and some lovely boots, maybe even some grey uggs if I could afford them. However, once again WOULD that is, if you made it in my size… Unfortunately this dress is even only available up to size 16, compared to 18 in the other Esprit dresses…

Dear fashion industry:

Can you please give me these dresses in a size 24 for Christmas? That would be amazing. Oh and while you are at it, make it a 32. You’d be surprised how much business there is in these sizes.

There are many stunning & fashionable girls being larger than a size 20 or even 30 looking for equally stunning clothes and there are very few retailers catering for us. The desire to dress in fashionable clothes does not end at a certain size, and this is a lesson all fashion retailers should learn, fast!

Lots of Love

More About The Topic

There is big demand for more trends being available in larger sizes. And there is a giant gap in the market particularly when going beyond a size 26.

In case you are interested in what us plus-size ladies would love to be able to buy or if you are a retailer interested in finding out where you might be losing money I do have a reading tip for you:

Blogger Challenge: #HeresWhatIWouldHaveSpent

Debz from “The Not So Secret Diaries of A Wannabe Princess” recently started a blogging challenge called “Here Is What I Would Have Spent” looking each time at a different retailer with a lot of amazing bloggers taking part. Below I have added a list of them. Check them out, they are definitely worth a read:

My #FridayFavourites – First Edition

New Weekly Post: #FridayFavourite

I am planning to share with you every Friday from now on my favourite outfit of the week, my #FridayFavourite. Which I am aware is no clever pun, but it serves it’s purpose, a bit like #FollowFriday I guess…

#FridayFavourite is not meant to be an in depth review but rather to give you a glimpse into my day to day combinations,  showcase my new but also my older all time favourite pieces in always new combinations. This can be something that has never made the blog, or something that has already been on the blog but newly combined.

First Edition

I would guess that in most cases the photography would also be relatively low key, like the below.

Skirt – Anna Scholz
Body – Asos
Necklace – Missguided
Belt – Yours Clothing
Cardigan – Hand my down (given to me by my mom)

Finally A Bit Of Animal Print

This is an outfit I have been and am quite excited about, paricularly the skirt. I had been looking for some nice animal print, and particularly leopard print, for quite a while. The problem with leopard print though is that especially in the larger sizes it easily looks” cheap”. So I was dead excited when I found the skirt in an Anna Scholz Sale, it was reduced from £139 to £27 and it has not disappointed me. I am absolutely loving it.

The Perfect Autumn Office Outfit

I also love how the mesh insert of the high neck body goes with the amazing choker from Missguided. And finally the waterfall line cardigan is smart enough for the office but still dressing it down enough to make the combination of the otherwise maybe a little bit to glamorous for the office combination, the perfect autumn office outfit in my opinion.

Fashion Updates On Instagram

If  you want to keep up with little treasures like that, that I might love but that might not quite make it to the blog, for whatever reasons it might be (in most cases most likely time), follow me on Instagram.

What Do You Think?

I hope you like my new category and that you will come back to check for next weeks #FridayFAvourite In the meantime you could let me know what is your favourite autumn office outfit? Do you have a blog and maybe want to join me, showing me your #FridayFavourites? Let me know! Signoff

Challenge Your Body Shape Beliefs- The Jumpsuit

Amazing On Others – But On Me?

The jumpsuit used to be for me one of those pieces of clothing that you see and admire on other people but are convinced/sure that it just would not work for your body shape.

Where It All Changed

This all changed when this summer I ordered this lovely & light printed jumpsuit in a spur of the moment situation. To my surprise it did neither look “off” on me, nor did it highlight all the wrong areas of my body. In fact I actually loved it, despite me having to bare my arms and it was one of my favourite pieces of the summer.

If you want to find out more about this jumpsuit just take a look at this blog post about stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Bye Bye Summer – Hello Autumn Wardrobe

Unfortunately Summer has come and gone and so I was clearing out my wardrobe to switch over from summer to autumn selection. One thing was clear, I needed more pieces suiting the weather and my new style.

“Socially Acceptable Onesies”

Jumpsuits are just amazing, they are basically socially acceptable onesies, incredibly comfortable but also very stylish. Although you will have to make sure to choose the right one for you. If you are like me particularly bigger in the belly section you should definitely make sure not too choose too tight cuts. I would recommend you have a look around, order a selection trying to find out which one is for you.

In My Wardrobe

These are the lovely plus-size jumpsuits that have made it into my autumn wardrobe:

From left to right:

  1. Pink Clove Wrap Front Jumpsuit (In Sale: Was £28, Now: £18)
  2. Club L Plus Size Mesh Insert Jumpsuit (In Sale: Was £49, Now: £22)
  3. ASOS CURVE Jumpsuit With Cold Shoulder

Oh and don’t forget you can currently get an extra 10% off sale items till Thursday 30th October 8am, using the code 10MORE

One of my favourite pieces between those is definitely this beauty:

Our Trip To The Reeperbahn

I was wearing this beauty to our visit on the Reeperbahn when we on our Germany trip for the Plus Size Fashion Days. Jumpsuits are the perfect outfit for sightseeing.

Especially with a cardigan jumpsuits are giving you just the right flexibility for a sightseeing day when you might feel warm from all the walking or in public transport or slightly cold outside during one of those windy transitional autumn days.

Not to forget they are also very comfortable for a long day on your feet, perfect style for having a coffee during the day and with a little make-up update also perfect for a drink in a hip bar in the evening.

My Favourite Cardigan

This cardigan, which I wore on this day out has made it on to my top list of favourite cardigans. I do very much like the star design on it, it has a great feel and for once isn’t a grey black or white cardigan. This lovely star patten cardigan is also part of the sale and currently reduced frrom £32 to £16 in the current (up to 70%) Asos Sale. Although you will need to be quick, most sizes are already sold out

Challenge Your View Yourself

If there is one thing I have learned that is really important for us plus-size ladies over the last few months of blogging then it it is to challenge style rules, not only societal rules on what large women should or should not wear, but mostly your own view of yourself.

You might have tried a piece on ages ago and that particular one might not have sat right, or one of the numerous style experts online will once again have given great style advice on what larger ladies stay away from. Don’t let this make you miss out.

Try it on!

It is so worth it to occasionally try a piece you think you might look ridiculous in. The worst thing that can happen is that you will either send it back or in the store put it back on the hanger. Generally the rule is, if in doubt, try it on! And if there is something out there you have never tried on (like me a while ago with my very first bikini) get out there and try it on!

The best thing that can happen is that you open up a whole new world of styles looks for yourself. And on top of that it feels amazing. This can open up a whole new confidence or a completely different way you see yourself

Obligatory Touristy Pictures

And to finish the post off, here a some touristy pictures four your pleasure. Unless you would like to see the slide show… 😉

What Do You Think?

Have you been suprised by a piece of clothing before, of which you thought it would be so wrong for your body type and love now? What do you think about Jumpsuits? What is your favourite autumn wardrobe piece? I would love to hear from you.

The Discount Code

Asos Premier

I am also still very much impressed with Asos Premier, since I signed up for it about 6 months ago. Joining this program costs you £9.95 and you get unlimited free next day delivery. There are some other bits and bobs you get with it but the next day delivery and the free returns is the main important factor for me.

A neat feature that I have been using a lot over the last few months. More retailers should implement programs like this, particularly if it is at such a reasonable price (I am looking at YOU Amazon!).

What Do You Think?

Which one is your favourite? I could not resist the Circular Skirt With Zip Front, the Midi Skirt In Scallop Hem LaceTruly You Bandeau Jumpsuit. Did you end up getting weak? Which one did you get?
I would love to hear from you

Dont Miss The Anna Scholz Sale

Anna Scholz – Luxury Plus Size Designer

I had firmly promised myself not to spend any more money on clothes this month… and then the Anna Scholz sale came along…

Anna Scholz really is a great designer. I might not love all of her designs, but there are definitely some awesome, awesome pieces in her collection. One of my all-time favourites is a stunning peplum dress with the most stunning print I have ever seen that I have reviewed a while back.

A Sale That Definitely Caught My Attention

As much as I like Anna’s creations, unless she does a cooperation with a high street retailer like recently with Simply Be in the UK and sheego in Germany. So, when I saw the below status about the current sale on Facebook, it really caught my attention.

It might be a bit difficult to see in the numbers in this image. They have reduced dresses in the £200 to £420 range to £37-£85 and there are skirts that were in the range of £139 to £189 are now between £27-37. You  are getting the gist of this.

So if you are like me, liking Anna’s collection but don’t quite have the cash for it, it might be really worth it to head over to the Anna Scholz page and have a look round.

So as said above, that has made me break my no-spending promise, but I won’t tell you yet what. This will be revealed in a hopefully fabulous outfit post.

What Do You Think?

What do you think about Anna Scholz. Is there any piece that might make you break your spending limits? Let me know in the comments. I would love to hear from you?
