My favourite Bikini of 2016

Since I learned to love Bikinis I have added more and more of to my collection. By now I have lost count of how many bikinis I own. And although my collection grew steadily, for some reason I did not end up sharing those beautiful swimwear pieces with you. So I thought it was more than high time to at least share my very favorite Bikini of the 2016 season with you – especially as I took some great pictures when I was on a short holiday at the beach earlier this year.

Plus Size Bikini Forever 21

Forever 21 – My Favourite Place For Swimwear

This beautiful plus size bikini is from Forever 21. I only really took note of them last year. Since then they have though not disappointed me when it comes to plus size swimwear. They had absolutely stunning bikinis but also two pieces during both swimwear seasons. Next year they will definitely be amongst the first sites I that will check for the new swimwear. I do have high hopes for the swimwear season 2017.

Beautiful Colour, Great Hold & Sexy Detailing

I do love it’s beautiful turquoise color and the harness like detailing even more – a subtle but sexy detail. The best thing about Forever 21 bikini tops though is the hold & comfort they provide.

I am wearing a 3x and it covers and lifts my bust nicely without squashing or creating a third boob. There will be quite some leeway regarding the bust sizes the top will support – due to the stretch fabric. I am however not sure how it is going to support smaller breasts, as the smaller the breast the less will be the stretch and with it the lift. For reference, my bra size is around a 42H in combination with a clothing size 24/26. Should your bust be much smaller, it might be worth sizing down to a size 2x.  Probably you should even consider ordering both sizes, even if you are otherwise the same size as me.

What You Should Not Wear… – Fashion Rules

Are you as tired as me of stupid rules about what we are allowed to wear or not? We all have come across rules or even lists of what we apparently should and should not wear. These rules can present themselves in so many different ways:

  1. “Passed Down Wisdom”: that has been passed down from woman to woman like I have been told so many times, that I should not wear stripes or patterns or that I should avoid short skirts, bodycon dresses or generally tight tops.
  2. School’s Dres Codes: Weird rules imposed by schools about what girls (and also boys) are allowed to wear, most of the time claiming the girls would be too much of a distraction to the boys in their leggings or skirts revealing irresistible kneecaps. This goes to so crazy lengths that girls have been sent home from school for wearing leggings. (1, 2, 3)
  3. Social media comments: Maybe you came across the beautiful picture of “What Laura Loves”  in a stunning jumpsuit on the Simply Be Facebook Page which was taken apart by mean commenters claiming she should not wear a jumpsuit as it was unflattering
  4. The Press: one of the most recent examples was the Oprah magazine stating that you should only wear a crop top if(AND ONLY IF as they repeat) you have a flat stomach… I already had my rant about this specific article here

Oprah, Crfop Tops Only For Flat Stomach

Simply be has recently put together an eye-opening list of all the confusing rules they came across…

Completely Arbitrary Or Even Plain False

These rules are completely arbitrary and even the assumptions they are based on are sometimes even plain false.  The myth for example that horizontal stripes make you bigger has been debunked in multiple studies. A 2008 study even found that horizontal stripes make you appear 6% thinner than in vertical stripes. Who decided what is flattering?

What Is So Wrong With Clothes That Don’t Slim Us Down?

Even if horizontal stripes would make you look fatter, what is so inherently wrong with that? Why are we so obsessed with “flattering”? Are we plus-size ladies and body-positivity lovers still so deeply convinced that  being big is such an awful thing that it needs to be concealed, hidden?

If we want to move plus size fashion to the next level we have to learn to step away from our obsession with “flattering” and “slimming”. I personally believe that one thing we have to learn is, that flattering is not a synonym to slimming.

Dress Codes – Often Demeaning For Both Genders

It is obvious that for school or the workplace we should all follow some common sense dress codes. Ultimately you just should not wear you clubbing clothes to your school or workplace.

However, a dress code that go so far as to ban leggings, the visibility of bra straps (tank tops/strappy tops) or similar are demeaning for both genders. These rules assume that boys would be unable of controlling themselves in the view of some ankles or a bra strap shame the girls for completely innocent clothes choices

What Can We Do?

When thinking about what we can do about those stupid rules and misconceptions there is one simple answer.  Break the rules, break them at every occasion you get, and be visible doing it. That way we can break down the expectations of us trying to stay invisible and to hide our rolls and extra pounds at all costs. Show your glorious body in whatever you like to wear!

Simply Be Project – Break The Rules

So when Simply Be shared with me their asked me if I wanted to participate in their recent project aiming to break those rules down following  their recent blog post about those rules, I was immediately in. They were so nice to supply me with some pieces from their line to go and break some rules. A project right after my liking.

Breaking the rules!

So here is a selection of outfits breaking all the rules I could think of featuring past outfits and the lovely dresses that i was supplied by Simply Be

Simply Be Spring/Summer 2015

A while back I was lucky enough to attend the Simply Be Spring/Summer Preview. This was an absolutely amazing event in an impressive London penthouse, involving some lovely wine, yummy canapés, a stunning new Spring & Summer collection and lots of lovely plus size blogger babes.

Simply Be SS15 UK Plus Size Blogger Event

If you follow my Instagram you will have most likely been able to follow the events on this day as it happened and will already have gotten a glimpse into the new Simply Be collection, if not, even the more of a reason to follow me on Instagram.

I so hope the bikini top will come up to a G-Cup. #SimplyBeSS15 #preview #plussizeswimwear #plussize

Simply Be’s have by now even added a video of this preview day on their youtube channel so that you can get a first hand impression of the event in moving pictures if you pay enough attention you can even glimpse of me wearing one of my favourite Missguided dresses in this video.

 My Favourite Trends & Pieces

While then these styles were merely a preview, these lovely pieces are now, bit by bit, making their way into the Simply Be online shop. A good occasion to give you  a bit of  a closer look at the collection and my favourites.

While I am not really a fan of this years florals I am very much in love with the the clean bright colours in an almost candy colour range in combination with clean strong cuts as well as the simple monochrome styles with a hint of 60s. And lastly not to forget I like the denim. For some reason it has recently not been easy to find a nice plus size denim jacket.

Great Swimwear 2015

The one thing though that absolutely stood out to me is the Swimwear. This year simply be have really outdone themselves with their swimwear. Great colour combined with vintage lines.

swimwear

Colour Block Bikini
Polka Dot Bikini
Sports Swimsuit
Mesh Swimsuit

What is great about these swimsuits, at least some, is that Simply Be also thought of us busty ladies when designing them. Wearing a G-Cup I am simply not able to wear a “normal” swimsuit without proper cups and/or under-wires. My mom always called it “pancakes” what swimsuits without proper cups would do to a large bust. No desirable shape… The black mesh swimsuit is one of those good examples, as it contains fixed foam cups supporting and keeping the bust in shape.

My absolute favourite piece is the monochrome one piece below which will instantly transform you into a plus size bond girl.

Retro Swimsuit

But also the Bikinis are not to be scoffed at.  After I made a great step of confidence and bought my very first Bikini last year (read more about this here) I might be buying Bikini number 3 and 4 this year…

Which one is your favourite piece? Did you get one of these lovelies already

Kimonos – Perfect To See Out Summer

The End Of Summer

With August Bank Holiday gone, the end of Summer is unfortunately approaching fast and even more unfortunately the weather is actually showing this more and more. We occasionally still have stunning warm days but especially the evenings have are not as warm any more as they were a few weeks back.

This is generally a relatively difficult time to dress for as it is not quite warm enough any-more for lovely skin flashing high summer outfits but it is also way to early for  jumpers and long sleeves. So transitional pieces are key for now.

Kimonos – Perfect To See Out Summer

Kimonos are one of those of these trends that have been round all summer but I did initially did not pay much attention to. However, now that the seasons start to change I have discovered kimonos perfect end of summer piece.

Perfect With Summerwear or Swimwear

Kimonos are great for the last hot days, as they are lovely lightweight and go great with your light summer wear or even your swimwear.

great as beach cover-up with swimwear

)

When It Is A Bit Colder

They are also super for  the colder times, as they give you just that little bit of cover up and bit of protection against droughts and slight chills you might need now in the evenings or on a windier day, while still giving you a great summery feel.

for the chillier days

Yours Clothing Kimonos

I had fallen in love with the fringed Kimonos from Yours Clothing. Initially I had planned to only get the palm print kimono.

However, I had ordered over click&collect to save on the delivery costs,  so when went to the Yours Clothing shop in Manchester to pick it up, I could not resist and ended up getting it in two versions rather than only one: The tropical palm print as well as an amazing flower print kimono.

I am usually a size 24-26 but they did not have my size in the flower print any more. So I went for a size 28-32 fortunately sizing does not matter in kimonos so much. I think I am still quite happy with the fit of the flower print kimono.

At the time, the kimonos were £30, but at the moment the floral one is reduced to £19. Some sizes are not available any more but as mentioned above, in case they might have sold out your size, don’t be afraid to size up the kimono will still look fine. The palm print kimono is unfortunately sold out. But here is a lovely alternative.

As a little tip, if you are a new customer to Yours Clothing you can currently also use the code WGGAUG15 for an extra 15% off.

My Kimono Wishlist

Here is a “little” list of the plus-size kimonos that have made it on my wish list. unfortunately my budget won’t allow me to get all of them, but I guess that 2 or 3 are going to make it into my wardrobe.

1: Joanna Hope Longline Lace Kimono Style Jacket Simply Be
2: New Look Inspire Button Through KimonoAsos
3: AX Paris White Lace KimonoSimply Be

7: ASOS CURVE Exclusive Kimono In Floral Spot PrintAsos
8: New Look Inspire Mono Floral KimonoAsos
9: AX Paris White Floral Tassel KimonoSimply Be

Maybe you could help me decide… Which one is your favourite?

What about you?

What do you think about kimonos? Do you have a favourite one? Print or Plain? Fringe, yes or no? What do you like to combine them with? I would love to hear from you
